As far as I know no exact sequence is followed and varries from bird to bird following no set pattern, not all of them will be replaced even over the full 12 month period,no one seems to know the reason for this :)

yes i have found this chrissy,,, it just seems strange that all dont follow the same pattern ,,they are  not all replaced in the yearly cycle ,, just shows you you have to have a bird well reared and well moulted , as who knows how long theyl lhave to keep  keep their secondries  :)

1 secendrie each year at moulting time and they renew the rest at different times through the year

Jimmy, I've asked this one before, Jimmy, but never did get a reply.

A Club mate told me that birds don't moult secondaries out annually, like the primaries, he said they are moulted every second year.

I've always thought secondary moult started at the one next to P1 and worked in sequence toward the body?

Leon Whitney's book 'Keep your pigeons flying'. Page 23, 'Larger feathers of the wing' :-

The primaries are replaced starting with 1 and progressing to 10. Secondaries usually moult from the outside inward, i.e., 1 & 10, 2 & 9, 3 & 8, etc.
