Guest Hjaltland Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Really depends on the size of the family you are breeding off, you might get away with a few days longer if its a small type of family... Hope your rings arrive soon or it'll be a tight squeeze as Westy says.
coey Posted January 9, 2008 Author Report Posted January 9, 2008 i know the hen is a wal zoontjen. not sure about cock. the chick is a bit big as its the only one in nest. dont seem to be having much luck with pigeons

jimmy white Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 ;)have had a youngster slip a ring , and un -noticed ,did pop a ring on it at (i think ,memory serves me right ) 11 days ,used vaseline ,had to keep drying fingers off, but just managed ,didnt like it tho ,felt bad doing it was a very tight sqeeze. and yes young sprint type families tend to have bigger feet i have found . hope this helps ? andy have managed this at two weeks old ,but very difcult and very easy to damage the foot for life,, really depends of size of yb , like andy,,above , ive used vaseline , after putting vaseline on the" knuckle" dipped the birds leg in cold water ,,to reduce the heat or swelling ,,then holding the birds toes with a dry tea towel, trying to put ring on using other tea towel [as the hands get slippy with the vaseline and you cant get a proper grip,, ] the faster you can get the ring on without damage the better , as when the ring gets to the knuckle this is were it gets stuck and in fact swells more , which makes it harder , but dipping the leg in cold water helps this swelling to keep at a minimum but its a dodgy bussiness,, hope you got your rings and managed to ring them
Merlin Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 Agree with above, but, before I use Vaseline leg is held under cold running water for some time, leg size will shrink somewhat, now apply Vaseline which will make it so much easier, try twisting it on rather than pushing or pulling.
coey Posted January 16, 2008 Author Report Posted January 16, 2008 i must appologise for not updating. i got my rings the next day. it was a very tight squeeze, but managed to get the ring on ;D
