at the moment, just trying to pair up a loft full of whites & near whites! mostly late breds from last year. been 2 weeks now & only 2 eggs (1 pair). but my original stock birds (putmans & kirkpatricks) they all have laid with no trouble.

it is a nightmare with yearlings & late breds though. (so confusing, tried hemp & everything))

oh well we will see. no rush ;) :-/

Have been paired about 10 days. I only wanted to breed of one pair in the race loft and yes you guessed it the hen was the only one to be beaten to a pulp.

She was scalped down the back of her neck this after a couple of days together when they were fine. Sods law when its the one you want to bread off.

Dont ever kill one again mate if this happens, there is a quick an easy solution. In 1990 we had this happen to one of our very best cocks, whom we was getting reday for the nantes national. I took him to a good old fancier who sdaly is no longer with us. He proceeded to take a knitting needle, and shoved it straght through the birds crop ie in one side, out the otherso that the knitting needle was being held by the crop. Straight away the air dispersed through the holes, and the cock wwas chuckjed into the air and flagged for half hour, hey presto gone. 15th national the week after. Ive goty one of my best stock cocks whom this happens to every year, each time its back ont with the knitting needle. Harsh, yes, but it cures it, and its better than the cull.
