Okitsme Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 hi. Really thinking of leaving the sport. One of my cocks was out flying with his hen and when his hen came down he was gone. The only place i can think he went is down someones chimney and the thought of this poor pigeon down there is disturbing me. How do i just forget this pigeon as a loss. Its driving me bonkers.

I know how you feel, We lost three. They were on roof tops for three nights next door, but wouldnt trap. Then they vanished and i was worried sick. But as my hubbie says it is part and parcel of having them. you cant make them come back just make it so they want to. You have to accept that you might lose some. It doesnt make it any easier when they go missing to be honest, but i have come to accept they may not always make it home :-/
Guest cloudview Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 are you sure , i nearly lost one today to the hawk luckily the bird was on the grass in front of loft , another 2mins and id have missed it
Okitsme Posted February 10, 2008 Author Report Posted February 10, 2008 I dont think it was a hawk as I have only ever seen one a few months back. The cock was flying everywhere with his hen and all of a sudden it was only the hen. The pigeons always sit on the roof as I cant get them to stay off it. Three houses down the chimneys are open and I know the birds do go there sometimes. Its an old man that lives there and I asked him if he heard anything fall down his chimney but he looked at me as if I was mad. I had two pigeons fall down my neighbours chimney a while back and we got them out and had the nearby chimneys covered up, but these are still open and I am sure he is down there. The thought of leaving the pigeon there is driving me nuts with worry. It makes me feel I am not cut out for this sport. There must be something I can do?

At times "sh** just Happens, so to speak" ;D ;D ;D Just like life in general :D So toughen up a wee bit ;) & breed another one to replace it. Because if its driving you bonkers ?????? etc. May I suggest to you :P a stress management course, if you wish to have a long & enjoyable time in this sport : : :. Enjoy.
crazy pigeon boy Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 you cant do anything unless your sure you are only taking a guess that the bird is down there and unless the house owner has heard anything or will give you permission to take a look down there there is not much more you can do
Okitsme Posted February 11, 2008 Author Report Posted February 11, 2008 So then I guess the bird is a write off? Another one to add to the archive on my pigeon programme. :'(. Just dont like the thought of an animal suffering, leaves a horrible taste in my mouth. Would have been better if I found feathers and I then knew it was dead. Guess I just need to move on and concentrate on the others. Thanks for all the avice peeps. Regards David
Pete M Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Do not give up hope I fly Birmingham rollers one went down a chimney and came out 5 days Later dirty but OK. Pete

Think of me ;D ;D ;D I have 70 odd babies at this very moment out there flying in the dark etc ;) somewhere. How many do you think, I will loose :P . "Pigeons" they will drive you up the wall at times, if you let them. Enjoy
Okitsme Posted February 11, 2008 Author Report Posted February 11, 2008 To be honest, I dont expect to see this pigeon again. I just hope that if he has fallen down a chimney that someone will here him and let me know.
Guest paulrstokes Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 I had one down a chimney without food or water for 13 days once. The bird obviously nearing the end, fainted, and fell of the ledge he was perching on, and appreaed in a neighbours living room. Food water for a couple of days and he was perfect, but for a little soot. Do not give up they are more determined than you think
Okitsme Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Posted February 12, 2008 If the fireplace is boarded up there is no way for the pigeon to get out. I have to face the obvious and write the bird off. Have been round to my neighbours and asked if they heard anything but they have not so the chances are very slim for the bird to be rescued. Thanks David
rabfefe Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 lost two yesterday, reckon its them f----- hawks

Okitsme Posted February 14, 2008 Author Report Posted February 14, 2008 Good news, the pigeon came back today. He was very tattered and had soot all over him. He was also very light and tired. The only thing I can think of is that he must have crawled his way out. Either way I was ecstatic to see him. ;D ;D
