You can take action against cats without killing them. but maybe for those who want to take this route , its just to much brain power to contemplate other means.

Maybe all those people who have advised to kill a cat on this site should now consider being reported to the RSPCA and prosecuted for such acts againts animals , which by the way is a criminal offence. or even banned from keeping animals themselves and that includes pigeons !!!

 

Maybe before opening your mouths you should put brain into gear first !!

 

Maybe people should make their lofts cat proof and not blame any animal for acting how nature intended. this angers me and I am sure certain groups would be interested in how fanciers in this country behave.

YES CONTROLLED BY THE OWNER , BUT THE LAW STATES THEY HAVE A ROVING COMMISSION , WHICH DOES NOT HELP I MUST SAY. YES OWNERS SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE . no they dont, there is a law in scotland which covers cats being a niusence i posted it up on site a while back, i must have a look and find it again,

Yes it is indeed a good idea to think before you type.We all want to protect our pigeons,and we all have different views and practices to do just that. These are best kept to p m if they are to be discussed.

Being reported would not change my opinion one bit or my method of dealing with the problem.

 

My pigeons have the right to have a bath on there garden in peace without the risk of being caught by a predator and as such i will remove anything i feel can put them at risk.Be it a Cat, rat, Hawk,

 

 

 

 

Here Here, if you cant protect what youve got, then whats the point in trying. Cat proof, no such thing. First off all before you report someone for animal cruelty, then you have to have evidence at hand and even then the likelyhood of conviction is slim to nil, trust me i know.. Disagree with Timbarra totally, would he/she feel the same if tabby had just taken his best bird, i think not. If youve found a "cat proof" method, then lets here it, as we all live and learn. Its one thing keeping them out of the huts, very easy, but to stop them coming at all, think not. Obviously i didint attend your university.

My My guys you all touchy today. Jstoon  gives a break mate only saying there are many ways to look at this and it best to think before you say.ofcourse we all do what we have to in order we protect our birds but in this year of 2008 w3e would do best to think before we share with other just how we deal with this issue. One of these people who can pick up a sh** by the clean end, will be on your case.

 

All is open to discussion and all viewpoints should be taken.

Take your point buddy, but the lads asking for advice, and thats all the members have done, given there advice. Not once has the person criticising others given advice, and thats my point. A lot of what has been said has been in jest, and thats how it should be taken.

what gets me is its not so bad if people just had 1 cat but they donot across the road from me 1 women has 12 her sister lives at the back of me she has 8  i told her the cats keep haveing the birds  she said they have to eat and that it was nature

9 times out of 10 a cat will kill a pigeon but wont eat it they are predators and designed to do a certain thing, hunt !! I think giving advice to kill cats is so wrong so why give it, JSTOON you have your view but killing cats should not be an option , should it ? there are laws and without them anarchy rules !!

I am sure my view is shared by people whos dogs catch a cat in the garden .. the owner of the cat does not come round and shot the *expletive removed* dog does he ?

why because dogs chase cats ! millions of years of evolution made it so. same with cats, also other species . . man on the other hand seems to want to kill anything or anyone that does not want to comply with mans way .

First and fore most, if you read the thread in its entiraty, you will see that i never told the lad to KILL a cat, i was agreeing with another members comments, again my views.  I dont have a problem with cats, only when im trying to get them out of the jaws of my jack russells mouth, like me, they dont like them either. And i dont need telling about the law, i put a uniform on and keep the peace, as to speak.

One thing i would never do though is contemplate reporting other pigeon members for doing so to the RSPCA as youve pointed out!!

we to a certain extent, control our pigeons life's [up to the racepoint at least] we have a duty of care to our birds if that, means having to include "slotting" a cat that is down to the fancier himself, i got the impression that most[if not all!!!] of the comments made were in jest but at the end of the day not advertising might be the way forward in this matter [apart from anything else the guy was asking about keeping a cat away from his birds,an age old problem for us all]

in scotland there is a law if you know the owner they can get an order to keep cats from annoying you, i put this act on site a few weeks ago i must have a look for it you can get a court order, if cats are a niusence in public places u report it to the council, if its in private ground you get a court order,
