id say widowhood, its easier and cleaner in the loft,a new starter with old birds will have enouth to watch and do without making things harder, put them on widowhood and advance from there and learn to do it your way.

well im new to game and im going for widowhood as only way to be constantly there or there abouts if pigeons in top form , condition and managed right ( main one ) my pigeons will never be the blame as the manager runs the show and thats me in my loft !!!!! good luck mate

I believe it all depends on what sort of racing you are interested in,be it sprint to middle or long distance. For me its distance and natural is the only way to achieve this, keeping birds naturally for me as a new start with only three seasons under my belt theres no fancy systems and just lets me get on with learning. But thats just my opinion.

You will need a quite a big set up for it all.personally its 500 miles and up for me and for that its natural, but one again just my opinion.

yes you can,fly them on dual widowhood, race the cocks and hens and only race the hens once a fortnight and get them geared up for the distance slowly getting them fitter with the jumping of races you will be doing, good widowhood hens will beat natural hens at the distanceive seen this in a lot of top lofts.Hope this helps. ;)

Maybee but is that not quite complicated, especially for a novice.

No,all he has to do is set his managment out, start them on widowhood ,seperate his hens and exercise his birds once a day 1 hour each.when training reliese them together and let them all trap at the sametime, then send cocks every week to the races, the hens once a fortnight.Once started the rest will follow in practice,it works

personally being a complete novice as i was i would find that a bit complicated.there is so much involved in just keeping the birds healthy and learning about them ,that i believe if you want to go down that road thats fine but did not interest me, as looking after them in general and learning was more important, and i believe that personally has served me well.

Hello start and learn flying the system that suits your job and lifestyle and how you like your birds .I race natural it suits both of the above i do not want to race every week and i woild keep the birds if i did not race. My interest is out and out distance but go and meet a few local fanciers and talk to them then make your own decision try your 1st season natural and go from thier.

keep it simple to start with and learn as you go along, and more importantly enjoy yourself.

I have raced natural last 2 years but this year I am going to try roundabout had great success with natural but just fancy a change

Natural birds can beat widowhood pigeons especially well moviated hens but it all depends on the management and the quality of the birds.

I'm going to be doing natural as my first season with yb's and am short on cocks. You have to keep an eye on th epigeons through and pair them at different dates that way you'll always have something in form to send.

Its easy to loose form with widowhood pigeons as well. I think what everyever you do will be difficult as a novice I'm lucky cause my dad is  there to give me advice and keep any eye on the birds

yeah i know im going to find it hard

but i need to pick one so i build the right boxs

pluss i cant have to many birds the loft will be 16 x 8

If you can't have two many pigeons and are stuck for space than you are best with natural as problem with widowhood is good hens can be wasted. If I was you I'd get some pigeon books and dvds and have a good look into what you fancy flying before you go any further.

Nestboxs for widowhood can be used for natural.

You will need a seperate loft to keep your hens in as well with widowhood. Most experts recommend a wire floor and pole perchs to stop the hens flying together.

Best book on widowhood I have read so far is east to west by Kevin Hurst

For natural pigeon racing just get some dvds.

Widowhood is what most working blokes tend to favour as it can save on time.

Have a look online and search for boddy and ridewood they do a ton of dvds on both widowhood and natural.

A good book I've read on natural racing is

Pigeon racing by DV Belding

Jim Jenner also does some good dvds called secrets of champions if you get secrets of champions 2 that has all the methods of racing old birds on.
