Lennut Tar Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 So Why do our playboys PixS into the wind , Year in year out? Because they are gambling with easily earned money no doubt! > > "Just Maybe" ?????? ;D ;D ;D They just have trouble, picking the right eyes to send over to race there. My mate :D who's a local, may be able to help them ;) , if you have a chat to him : : :. Enjoy
thunderboult Posted February 26, 2008 Report Posted February 26, 2008 i asked this on another chat site a couple of weeks ago and was told by people in the know that they race their birds in germany first to select the better ones and then send them out to africa , they tell me the sun city resort is in the middle of a dessert and there's nowhere for the birds to go and it is to far for them to try and go home so they settle ok along with the 5,000 or so other birds that's there.

Thunderboult !!!!!! Interesting comment etc above ;D ;D ;D Re "No where to go" :D At the end of the day etc. To me !!!!!!, many of them dissapear for some strange reason. It's a digrace in my view, when one studies the history of this race, & it's only 300 odd miles now. "But Then" it is all about money as we know. "So Bugger the pigeons" there totally expendable (breed another lot) in the big picture. Enjoy.

I'm so pleased that you are here giving us your excellent advice Lennut, I just don't know what I would do without your input, I've learned so much from you........ Enjoy! ;D

pjc Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 just think its down to the climate. We fly into Wales, birds that fly into the flat lands of England etc will not fly here, we need birds that will cope with the mountains and valleys! All about horses for courses!
Guest Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 Hi Phil, No disrespect mate, but i personally think that good pigeons will win in any area! I think that Thunderboults answer as regards to Vics question is the only explanation that it can be, if what he has been told is correct! It is certainly an interesting one from Vic, thats for sure! Vic, what are your thoughts as to the reasons why?
pjc Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 Dave, the stock i brought with me when I moved to Wales have proved useless here. I send young birds back to friends in England and they win! Have been working with a family of birds now for the last couple of years that are starting to win here, but wouldn't buy anything that doesn't fly into a hard area.
Geraint Parry Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 just think its down to the climate. We fly into Wales, birds that fly into the flat lands of England etc will not fly here, we need birds that will cope with the mountains and valleys! All about horses for courses! Correct I know top fancier from wales who have had many many top bred pigeons from fainceirs in England who fly the south route (we fly the south east route) and the birds will just not have it. takes time to build a family to suit the route conditions etc. The majority of Germans fly from West to East, head winds most of the time and in the Summer the temps can be just as high as that is Spain, 30 deg been the norm. but they fly in these conditions no problems. Food for thought
Guest Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 I take your point Phil, and you could be right, going off your own experiences with your own birds. Are the new birds that you are now working with from the area you are now living? My experiences are slightly different, in that I've had birds that have performed in England, breed them to perform in South Africa, Wales and Ireland. I can not recall any of our birds going to Scotland. I have obtained birds from these "harder areas" but most have not performed here in the easier area! I have never ever been to Wales, so i cannot comment on how hard the area is to fly into, but I have no reason to question or doubt what you say, and sincerely don't! I must admit, i cannot explain how your birds win in England for you and others, but not for you where you are now! It is certainly interesting reading though!
Bilco Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 I brought German pigeons back to England in 1964, and loaned them to my pal Fred Redgewell in Swindon. They topped the West of England NR Combine right away, one YB topped the Combine three weeks in a row. They were damned good pigeons! Deutschland Uber Alles was a title they earned - in that respect anyway. Fred had 14-1sts Combine out of them in three years before I reclaimed the original three breeding pairs.
pjc Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 Strangly enough Dave the Family we are working with are Direct Kevin Roosen pigeons, closely related to the South Africa winner, we had them before he won the race!
Guest paulrstokes Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 I think the point that is being missed here is the numbers the german fanciaers send out 5 times the amount that the British do. The south african boys have been buying up the german birds for the last few years breeding and sending the young to Sun City, and they cannot do anything with them. I have been out for the last few years and have heard all of the rumors. This year I spoke to the german Co-odinator and posed some of the rumors to him, all he could say when he finished laughing was what a load of Rubbish. The bird that won the overall averages this year "Birdy" hatched on the 14th April, and was shipped at the end of June, having not left the loft.
