Bad Trapper Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 We have a lad in our club who has just restarted after a break for a few years, he ordered some youngsters way back last September and sent a deposit. He rang the fancier after christmas to give himself an idea when they would be ready. About a month ago he then telephoned the fancier to enquire how the birds were coming along, the guy seemed very vague but said he was ringing them that week. He rang again yesterday and spoke to the fancier concerned and seemed unable to give him a straight answer saying they should be ready by now. Then came the excuses like he had hawk strikes, lost his telephone number etc everything except a straight answer. Personally I think he has sold the birds or has forgotten about him. Just think its really terrible to treat someone this way, and to a chap who has come back to the sport, he was told at the time he was the first to book. Supposed to be a decent partnership but they do not even return his calls.
p charlton Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 get the lad to come on here and name and shame
carlsberg Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 get the lad to come on here and name and shame good idea
schyphos Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 Yes,that is a very poor way to go about helping a new starter in the sport. I hope the guy has much better experiences elsewhere and stays in the sport. Jim Newton (Head & Newton)
Bad Trapper Posted March 6, 2008 Author Report Posted March 6, 2008 I know they are registered on another site(guess) but it just makes my blood boil. He had ordered 12 y.b and was hoping to have about 30 so its quite a large proportion of his team. Just had a text from my mate to say acouple of top boys will breed him 6 or 8 between them so I think the local lads will rally round.
carlsberg Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 nice to see the local fanciers are willing to help
Guest chrisss Posted March 6, 2008 Report Posted March 6, 2008 get the lad to come on here and name and shame yes i agree if nothing else its a public service [to show other guys not to buy birds from them]can he get his deposit back from them? bearing in mind they have gone back on the deal, and is there also now a worry that they might send him anything just to get him off their backs.
Merlin Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 For myself if order had not been met at proper time(approx) I would ask for my deposit back,if not forthcoming, then and only then would I take my next step, and in this instance I would detail all correspondence, verbal or otherwise for future refrence,
Bad Trapper Posted March 7, 2008 Author Report Posted March 7, 2008 Just an update, after a couple of phone calls from someone in the club they have now said they will send the deposit(£50) back to him. As was mentioned on here they could have sent him anything. The same chap who has spoken to them has also got 6 squakers booked with a well known Black Country Stud and has promised delivery within 7 days. With the offers he has had now puts him up to 32 for racing and puts £100 quid back in his pocket!! So I think some good has come out of a bad expierience.
pjc Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 I would still name and shame them just to warn others!
Guest MBpigeonguy Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 beginners should not even pay for the birds!!!! i dont know any person in manitoba (canada )who would make a beginner pay!!! and not even the old guys payed for birds when they started out, i could walk up the the best racers in manitoba, and walk away with 10 really good birds, i have not payed for any birds i own, and i own a yb teama small old bird team and 40 winner breeders,
pjc Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 MBpigeonguy, there are to many people in this country who run small studs etc that are only interested in money! Many years ago I was sec of a small club that had nothing! The old sec had been doing the job for over 60yrs. I tried to organise a sale and wrote to 30 studs, only one even bothered to reply and they would only sell me the youngbirds at a reduced rate to auction! There are to many who forget charity begins at home! Phil
Lightning McQueen Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 I would still name and shame them just to warn others! i agree............. :X Its things like this that are giving the sport a bad name, its hard enough to entice new members without them getting stitched by our fellow flyers!!

pjc Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 somebody sugested setting up a register of people willing to help newcomers in local areas. It would be a good thing for the forum to do but bet you won't get any big studs involved!

It would be a good thing for the forum to do but bet you won't get any big studs involved! the sad thing is that a few years ago [so i have been told]"a register of people willing to help newcomers"was called a club ??) ??) ??) ??) ??)
pjc Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 as soon as its called a club then competition starts and nobody wants to help fellow members incase they get beaten!

pjc Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 oh yes! I had always been given birds, many better than you could ever buy! When I moved to Outskirts of London I hadn't any racers but wanted to get started again. I had already been in touch with somebody from what was to be my local club. He took me to a club meeting and at the end of the meeting stood up and introduced me and asked if anybody would breed me any young birds. From a little gang of members in the corner came "theres plenty in the papers"! A great reintroduction to racing! Phil
