THE FIFER Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 with the SHU we have a stray centre, on basketing night we put any young stray in a basket, they are then taken to the atray centre and sorted, each week the feds receive any birds belonging to their members clubs get informed if there are any birds for them and the club arranges to pick them up, but still not a lot get returned, i thinnk a lot of young birds go wild these days,
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 I hope I never get any of mine reported. Yes I thought it worthy of a place in my loft to start with but now it has got lost and enterd someone elses loft I know its true worth. I will kill any which come back in a box. It sounds harsh to some I know but it is a fact and many others are just the same as me. A credit to the sport, sends out a great message
Guest Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 9 out of 10 birds reported are not wanted back! The owners are always, ill and can't collect, don't drive, pensioners and can't afford amtrak etc etc etc! Then they tell you how well bred the bird is! Is it any wonder people don't bother reporting strays to getting sob stories! Couldn't have put it better myself,I get sick of the same old sob stories, they must think we all came down in the last shower, yes you get the occassional fancier who is really grateful and can't do enough but on the whole you just get a load of hassle
wings Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 A credit to the sport, sends out a great message well said Tammy.
DOVEScot Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 Think there are far too many assumptions being made here. Think most fanciers would be interested in at least knowing what happened to their pigeon. Pigeon might go into another loft because its injured. Surely the bird is allowed 1 mistake? Or do perfect pigeon fanciers exist that don't make mistakes? Not an assumption, it's a fact We always report birds that have came into us, and have met up with guys on ma travels to give them it back to save them costs, very little fanciers want them amtraked to them, we have been told a number of times kill it or keep it We always arrange to get our birds back whether it be a fantail or a racer
Guest chrisss Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 the bit i can understand about not wanting a bird back is the amtrak costs [for an untried yb which has made maybe the first of many mistakes, who would want it back?some would most would not]the bit i cannot understand is that the same guy who tells you that "its off a fed winner/one of my bests birds/bred by god" etc would be calling for your crucifixtion if you were to race his birds without a transfer ,as for where they go who knows? the local town centre? [in my case doubtful a rung bird will last about 3 days we have a stray catcher at work,or a very selective hawk]into the Fields?
