taff Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 hi everyboby i am trying to settle my youngsters, only problem is there are two bloody cats scaring them all the time. Any ideas on how to slove this problem before i do somthing to them.
pjc Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 whose cats are they? If they belong to neighbours and you get on with your neighbours then explain you are letting the birds out for the first time and would they mind keeping the cats in for a couple of hours, if not shoot the flea ridden things!
taff Posted March 9, 2008 Author Report Posted March 9, 2008 they are my neighbours cats, who i dont get on with, shooting them would be my last resort, any other ideas
Guest Hjaltland Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 This is serious , you have my sympathies Taff, try the diplomatic route first, life's too short to be at odds with your neighbours... then there are all sorts of alternatives, too long a list to mention here.
taff Posted March 9, 2008 Author Report Posted March 9, 2008 i cant stop them coming in my garden, my neighbours dont take the cats in they are out all the time. are the ultra sonic cat deterents thats on the market any good do you know
pjc Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 the ultra sonics don't work on all cats! My ex had 2 cats when i met her and i tried the ultra sonic on them, 1 cat wouldn't come in the house if it was on and the other would curl up and sleep by it!
Andkar Lofts Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 try a sonic cat repeller, plenty advertised & available from most d.i.y. stores ,alternatively water jet repeller ,which works on a sensor ... there is always a dog of course .... all which think you will find far less hassle than falling out with neighbours or doing some suggested method which is bound to land you answering a few akward questions ..... also believe it or not not only pigeon fanciers view this site !!
taff Posted March 9, 2008 Author Report Posted March 9, 2008 thanks for the advice all , i will try to talk to neighbour first and then go from there
mark proctor Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 hi mate try a cat zapper ive just bought one from boddy and rigewoods only£15 there good but youve got to be preety close but they run like f..k when it hits them but it doesnt harm them.... if that fails make a scare crow and stand it near your shed but keep moving it around different spots so the cats dont get use to seeing it trust me i havent had a cat in my yard for 2 weeks since i made it trust me mate... and theres hundreds around here... i will put a picky on of it in ten mins to show you it but dont laugh... :K) :K) :K) ps keep swaping coats on scare crow to cofuse the cats....
THE FIFER Posted March 9, 2008 Report Posted March 9, 2008 the best ones are the scarecrow water jet, they dont come back a second time for them, , or if you get a chance throw a bucket of water on them each time they come over your garden, or a hose, they dont like water,

Lennut Tar Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 hi everyboby i am trying to settle my youngsters, only problem is there are two bloody cats scaring them all the time. Castleview Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 Get a little yorkie and teach him to chase cats. The only cats we get in the garden are our own and the occasional one on the budgie avairy, but the dog scares them away.
mark proctor Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 castleview you would be saprised how many cats that you get in one night mate ... ive got a alarm set on loft its like a censer and the other bit is in the bedroom ...some nights its gone of maybe 5 or 6 times and ive gone to the window and seen cats hanging on the front of the loft scrathing away at the air vents...alot of fanciers dont even no theyve been there cos there asleep..( but i no different) then some fanciers wonder why there heaving crap racing ...all they think is we dont get cats , but trust me they do.... :'( ive seen all different coloured ones in the night not just from our area they must travel miles every night....just some thing to keep you fanciers on your toes .. ;) mark ps some times in the year you go in your loft in the morning and find loose droppings...then you start to sling things in the water ( canker cocci worms ) dont... you no what it is.. hope this helps guys... :K) :K)

DOVEScot Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 Sonic pet repeller usually works - get one off ebay Only works on certain cats, some are tone deaf to totally deaf,

DOVEScot Posted March 10, 2008 Report Posted March 10, 2008 okay buy them a hearing aid and then get a repeller ;D Best hearing aid is a old invention made by the chinese, it involves gunpowder and lead. Place the gun powder behind the lead and the lead between the cat's ears. works every time ;D Or you could try one of these

DOVEScot Posted March 11, 2008 Report Posted March 11, 2008 We were working outside today, Carol was in the old loft and I was across from the new loft. The new loft door was open and all the birds were enjoying the sun, we thought because we were working there, everything would be fine. A cat sneaked into the loft and scattered all the birds. I caught it with a fantail in it's mouth leaving the loft, just missed it with the toe of my boot but luckily it dropped the fantail. We won't be so complacent again, and the cat will be dealt with appropriately next time I see it Sorry 883 girl but that is where I draw the line :-/

Next time they come for tea/breakfast. Enjoy.

Next time they come for tea/breakfast. Enjoy. Personally I think everyone has the right to do and keep what they want, as long as it doesn't affect anyone else. I will first tell the owner my problem and ask them to deal with it so we can both enjoy what we have. A bell on the cats collar would al least alert us the dogs or the pigeons to their presence, How would they like it if my little friends came into their garden and killed their precious little animal. I would be told to keep them under control, so should they, if not it is the old Chinese method as far as I am concerned :-/
