Guest chrisss Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 do you think that a yb loft needs an aviary or not, i lost 5 ybs today,[for me the end of the world] my father in law [ex fancier] told me that they cannot get a good look around [i have a 4 foot perspex sputnik on the front]i think that they were too old [first time out today because of the rain/wind]some of them were moulting body feathers and their wattles were changing colour they were very strong and maybe not that hungry a bit of help will go a long way
pjc Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 with a sputnik on the front they should have plenty of chance to look around. Some people don't let the youngbirds outuntil there eyes have changed and others get them to start coming out as soon as they are weaned so it doesn't realy matter. The 4 that have gone off maybe just sat up somewhere and will reapear tomorrow, they don't usualy go far first time up. PHil
Merlin Posted March 15, 2008 Report Posted March 15, 2008 Hope you have them back to morrow, myself I always encourage them to walk out around garden, approx 25-30 day old, then they spend a period of time up and down to loft roof, they seem to develop a better rapport with their immidiate enviroment, before they take off, touch wood I never have too many problems with this method.
