Guest SPORTKA Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Have got my 4 ybs settled in now , they are feed twice a day on the dot of 9am and 5pm i/2 oz each at each feed, they come down off perches as soon as I rattle tin, in fact they fly down now as soon as I approach shed (even when I try sneakin up to them they seem to know im approaching) anyway I am thinking of letting them out and bearing in mind they are now what I would call strong given the amount of practice flying they do after their feed. I have a number of options and would value your opinions option one is to miss the morning feed and loose them out around 5.30 or later if advised, then if they hang about offer food to get em straight back in. option two same routine only let two of the 4 go out, just wondering if theres any more strenght in numbers and best to risk all 4 ? option three I have been told that it might be best to fly a few tumblers first to use as droppers, I have bought 6 but they wont be with me for around another week, then Iv got another few weeks to settle them in before they go out and all the time my racers are getting stronger I really dont want to lose these little beauties so any advice would be great thanx in advance
wings Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Don't feed them the 5pm feed, the next day midday-ish let them on to the landing board, and let them have a good look round if they want let them on the floor to walk around, but most of all make sure they are hungry, this is what i do it works for me, do not startle them if they are hunhgry they wont stray to far, if you think they are particulaly strong on the wing damp there wings down so they can't fly to far. hope some of this helps good luck
pjc Posted March 24, 2008 Report Posted March 24, 2008 Can they see arround the area from the loft, i.e have they got a flight? If they have they should be fine, just open the loft and allow them to come out in there own time, don't be tempted to make them come out and fly etc. If they are hungry the first time even think about sitting in front of the loft and let the birds come out to you, throw the odd grain or 2 down for them and they will come for the food and have a good look, the when you want them back in call them in with the food. This way you will be there to prevent the birds being startled by anything like cats etc and you can keep the birds quiet and under control. Phil
