Guest bigda Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 when thayis a big race on we could broadcast the same day just imagine on the tv and in the papers we must establish a date, the fishing season has one, the bowling has one, the horses have one put your thinking caps on lads

Guest bigda Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 has no one got a date they would like it to be known as pigeon day
Ronnie Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 I reckon it should be last old bird first young bird race prolly the beginning of july We could hold multiple race's incorporating both old and young birds more pigeons would be released that way . Interest a big bookmaker say Ladbrookes or Sky bet and your laughing.
Ronnie Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 OOoo we could use an official race starter and dress him in a flat cap and he can have a whippet with him just to keep the old sterotypes alive
Guest bigda Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 I reckon it should be last old bird first young bird race prolly the beginning of july We could hold multiple race's incorporating both old and young birds more pigeons would be released that way . Interest a big bookmaker say Ladbrookes or Sky bet and your laughing. if this was done right the papers would be footing the bill and we would be a sport with sponsor ship, with the possability at no cost to the fanciers with dues beeing paid by advetising. there logos
Ronnie Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 In all seriousness in this day and age it could be televised .Even put chips in rings to map the birds via sattelite as they fly .They build up to the main event could have interveiws with favorites owner saying how they sent the birds maybe a tour round the lofts.Commercial breaks would consist of pigeon retailers paying premium rates to have there adverts aired inbetween. The possibilities are endless how much would some top pigeon stud pay to have there logo painted on the side of a to fanciers shed ...."Buy "insert product name here" as used by so and so this years big race winner"
Ronnie Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 How many pigeon fanciers are there in the uk? This could be a realistic proposition for some tv company.
Guest bigda Posted June 1, 2008 Report Posted June 1, 2008 not just tv the pigeon is responsiable for carrying the first piece of news, is there any paper out there wanting to get the news last, if interest can be genarated by us, they will bite the hand of you for a piece of the action a one penny on the birdage would buy us enough coverage every week of the year plus sponsership from grain merchants, and from all who make a living from us. push for it and it will happen, the four unions in the uk can make it happen if pushed in the right direction, and the right pr man comes to the fore test the water.
Guest bigda Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 is there any one there with a date that would suit all of the fanciers surly we can agree a day we need to start some where , don"t let this oppertunity slip on by
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 I would say the last Saturday in April, because it is start of the new season and everyone will be racing that weekend, because everyone will have a positive mind in what the season has a head of them which on the other hand if you have it later in the season it could be all doom and gloom if the races have been disasters which would not make good headlines if the papers or tv where to pick up on it.
Guest Vic Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 I would say the day of the NFC's Pau National, after all, it is the most prestigious race to win on these shores, and truly is the blue ribband of em all. Akin to the FA cup final, which has always been the no. 1, top view, regarding football fans world wide. I know that I will get some shillelaghs, dirks, cabers, and leaks thrown in my direction. But it also heralds the start of another yb season , for new and old alike. Just my opinion. LOL Vic.
Guest Vic Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 May I also add, that the greatest horse race on earth, with by far the biggest coverage is the Grand National, and I am sure that the pigeon race from Pau is the pigeon flyers Grand National. Is it not open to all quarters of OUR shores? Vic.
