Guest IB Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 kow did the birds get back then? Since they had been captive all the time out of UK, they were not considered by DEFRA to have been 'imported' and did not require quarantine. They were brought back to England, and (other than at least one South Coast Fed) were liberated ... Peter Bryant commented at the time that that made a mockery of the Channel Island situation - created by DEFRA quarantine rules - as both situations were much the same.
DOVEScot Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 What if DEFRA did not take enough action and somehow we were faced with an epidemic of bird flu, they would be crucified for that as well, it may not effect pigeons but try selling that to the general public who have no time for pigeons in the first place :-/ Agencies always go overboard with restrictions to protect themselves from comebacks :-/
DOVEScot Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 They didnt seem to bothered about it before with bernard matthews turkeys and where they were brought in from in fact wasnt it him who was paid out It seems they have very strong regulations for what suits them It's always the case Rose :-/
pjc Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 when did any government department ever react in a reasonable time? (unless to put tax up!) Wheels turn very slowly and when preasure is put upon them they sieze! Phil

jimmy white Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 Time barred and missed from my last post:- 2006: The Avian Influenza and Influenza of Avian Origin in Mammals (England) Order 2006 enacted following the Dereham poultry farm AI Incident. 3km & 10km zones and restrictions around Dereham put in place. 28th March 06 : Confirmed as H7N3, a Low (rather than High) Pathogenic strain of AI. Hunt for source of the infection and 'contacts' continues. An LPAI restricted zone was then introduced, 1km radius of infected farm Order put restrictions on captive birds and 'bird gatherings' within the Zone. second part of ib,s post,,,,,,,,,,,, i cant see the last topics on bird flue on sticky now, mostly kept up to date by bruno,, ,, this may well be on somewhere, but it was mostly bruno that did a heck of a lot of work in informing the forum ,, that kept us well informed , i think it would serve good purpose if it was put back on.
