bewted Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 theres one smaller than a birmingham roller, but, cant think of its proper name just now !!
Glassfeather Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 Diamond doves are Geopelia cuneata, a different species from columba livia. The smallest variety of domestic pigeon is the Valencian frill or Spanish Figurita, although the Portuguese tumbler may be just as small, or smaller in some instances: Valencian Figurita: http://www.figurita.nl/ Portuguese tumbler: http://myworld.com.sapo.pt/ptumblers_page.html

Guest Vic Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 Another name for the wood pigeon is Ring "Dove." Where do these guys come from, i ask you? lol
Glassfeather Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 so which is it? There really isn't that much between them, I think it is more widely acknowledged that the figurita is the smallest.
Glassfeather Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 how big are these portuges tumblers? Quite difficult to give you an indication of size, they probably weigh around 250 grams. The one in the photo is stood in a 15" square pen......
Glassfeather Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 I thought the vianesse was the smallest! The Viennese are very small too, and the short faced Budapest tumblers are also very tiny but I think that on average, all things considered including weight, height, overall length; the Valencian frill is smaller.
Guest shadow Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 Another name for the wood pigeon is Ring "Dove." Where do these guys come from, i ask you? lol it may be a local name but the ring dove or collared dove is a different species
Glassfeather Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 Wood Pigeon or Columba palumbus Collared dove or Streptopelia decaocto
Guest Vic Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 it may be a local name but the ring dove or collared dove is a different species Local? Check the Oxford dictionary. A ring dove is a wood pigeon. lol.

Guest Freebird Posted June 9, 2008 Report Posted June 9, 2008 The Catalonian Tumbler is smaller than a Birmingham roller but I think the figurita is just that bit smaller than these. There are quite a lot of small doo types but most are just larger than the male haggis who's left legs are larger than his right ones which he developed for running round the mountains. That's why he is easy to catch in the breeding season coz his 'extra leg' gets in the way and he just rolls down the mountain into nets! Ahahahaha!(evil)
