Simeon Turner Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 We had a young bird reported on Tuesday by a non fancier in Warsop, Nottinghamshire - it is about 20 miles from where we fly. We lost the young hen in its first race on Saturday from Kettering The charming lady said that the young bird was ok, but had lost its tail, he husband had been out walking their dog and had found it walking in the road. My dad went to collect the bird yesterday and was horrified to find that the youngster had lost it's tail because some nice person had decided to cut it's tail off, but, the story doesn't end there the TOOL who did this had also cut down all the flights in both wings Why are people like this, I cannot comprehend. I phoned the lady last night and told her what had happened and she was horrified with what had happened to the poor thing, I thanked her for saving the birds life and als reminded her that not all people out there are like this. One thing is for certain if I were to find out who had done it, they would certainly be losing more than their tail
Pompey Lad Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 pthere is no need for people to do a thing like that all i can say is if it was a pigeon fancier then they shouldn't be in the sport and that they must be very jealous of you pigeons.
invalidusername Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 Crikey, what a disgrace. As has already been said, if it's a fancier, it's a sick one. I'd like to think it wasn't though, as you hear of such horrific things happening to animals out there. I'm still reeling over some sick bas**rd who used a flame-thrower on a guinea pig amongst other things. The kind magistrate/judge just gave them a suspended sentence. My personal view is that if someone is so twisted to do things like that to animals, it's only a small step to do it to humans too. Hope you have a good outcome with the hen.

Thanks David, I know what you mean. The hen should be fine when she moults out, but obviously she is finished for racing this year - not to worry as she if bred well enough.
invalidusername Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 Hopefully she'll repay you for her rest and care :-) Good luck.

Guest strapper Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 i reported one(y/b) other night and the cheeky tw@t asked me to drop it off in his town for him because he was working and couldnt get down to collect it. he lives about 7mls away,i politely told him.............no i didnt i said u cheeky bass....i report ur fking bird and u ask me to drop it off in ur town for u. i said ill send it by amtrak and ur have to pay me it back, he soon came round to my way of thinking. thought i was doing the guy a favour...no wonder fanciers dont get birds back much these days.
Guest IB Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 I had a young bird couple of years back, you would have thought someone had taken scissors and cut diagonally across part of his tail and the ends of his end primaries. Didn't ground him tho. But nowadays you hear more of these wind farms and I now wonder if he'd had a tussle, maybe with one of those smaller turbines? Anything like that on your line-of-flight and have you had any birds cropped by them?
Guest Posted July 24, 2008 Report Posted July 24, 2008 In the early nineties, there was a lad in Sunderland called "Ponto" if I remember rightly, won Bourges with a Mealy Joseph Van Raamsdonck pigeon, topping the Sunderland & District Fed. Within a short time, some scumbag broke in to his loft and cut the legs off it by the elbows! It was headlines of the local paper. It amazes me how people can do this. Culling the rubbish is par for the course, defending your property against predators in my opinion is acceptable too, but to deliberately mame and harm any creature just for the sake of it beggars belief. I hope the perpertrators get what they are due, and then some.
