Let my 6ybs out at 5.o clock today, two of them were on their second outing and the other 4 first time out, they were good and hungry having missed morning feed after a bit of roof hopping they all had a good fly round and then settled on my house roof, after 3 hours of tin ratlin and calling I managed to get them down onto the roof of their loft but try as I might I could not get them to go back in through the trap, they all settled on the loft roof and darkness fell,I have managed to catch two of the birds off the loft roof but in doing so the other 4 flew up onto my house roof.

My big concern now is when daylight comes they will leg it. is it worth getting up at 4 in the morn or not

any ideas/advice would be welcome

They won't go anywhere when it gets light tomorrow.  :) And they won't come down when its dark either, so get some sleep.  ;D

You waited all evening on them tonight, tomorrow its their turn to wait on you.  ;D

They will come down in their own time tomorrow, but make sure they come down to a closed loft.  ;D  When they do come down, pour yourself a cup of tea and read the paper. Once they find the place closed they'll start to panic. They'll be all over the trap trying to find a way in. Once that happens, pour yourself another cup, and after you've drunk it, wander out and open the trap and shout them in. Feed a half ration, about 1/2 ounce per bird, and keep them in for the day.

Next again day Let them out unfed same time, and start again.  ;D

Chance is you will be up early cause they on your mind, they should be hungry enough in the morning so thet should not stray to far. Good luck let us know how you get on mate

Cheers

i would tend to agree ,also if the birds left in the shed are hungry enough tomorrow morning, put some food in the trap for them to eat ,that way the other birds still out will see them eating in the trap and hopefully go in as well good luck mate [been there done that ;D ;D]PS do not try to grab them even if you get one you will make it trap shy

tough spot...it's allways hard until you've got birds flying round that can drag ybs back in. i had similar troubles ( if its any consolation) including one that sat on the local church for a week. i wish i'd got 2 fantails before ybs and got those flying round first. personally i wouldn't try catching anymore of the loft roof,as they want to feel secure on their 'home' and it is closer to trap than house roof. perhaps you could feed the other two in the trap, leave well alone and trust to luck. rattling corn tin could be scaring them. best of luck m8 :)  :) somebody else has probably got some better ideas so don't worry

UPDATE. Got up at 6am (still dark) all 4 still sat on house roof,  about 10 o clock they had a short fly round and then back to house roof, eventualy they landed on loft but would not go in ! I left them to it for a bit as they were just not taking any notice of me calling them.

At  about 11.30 for no apparent reason they all came to the landing board and started peeping through the bob wires at this point I was inside the loft so started feeding the 2 birds I got in last night, within a minute they were all in , which I must say impressed me as I have only just added the bob wires.

I have only given them 1/2 oz mix each and will make sure they are on the minimum amount of food for the next few days.

What a releif to have em all back safe, dont no what I will be like when there racing lol, thanx for your help and support last night it really did help :)

Glad to hear the birds are back OK.

Remember having same bother with my first ever YBs ignoring me too. I noticed as I got more and more frustrated the tone and pitch of my voice changed;  I also noticed my call inside was different from the one I used outside, something simple and stupid like 'moan then' inside, and 'cummoan' outside - reckoned they just didn't recognise the call or know what I wanted them to do (I don't rattle a can).

As the other post says, you'll find it a lot easier next year when these YBs will be trained OBs, and they will help you train next year's youngsters.

When controling youngsters this should be done through their appetite, always excercise care and patience with your birds and especially youngsters,no sudden movements, tune them into your ways and methods on peanuts sparingly, always try not to startle them in any way for any reason, they dont understan the word sorry, patience, perseverance,oh and keep your fingers crossed,at all times regarding youngsters
