alex wight Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 The ones on show are all woodies, but how many racing pigeons have been killed but not shown???
Guest strapper Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 there must be hundreds(racers) a year lost through reckless shooting..a shot is a shot..wether a racer or woody!
Guest Vic Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 The ones on show are all woodies, but how many racing pigeons have been killed but not shown??? What argument or objection have we? All ring doves as the man says.
stewarty dove Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 it is a sport as well as a vital part of farming. People that shoot know the diference between a woodie and a racer. the white bars and size give it away plus the woodies fly a bit different to racers. Ammunition costs a lot so a shot is not a shot it is thought out and there is no trigger happy times as you would go bust quite fast

Guest peter.j Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 as woodies fly in a different manner to domestics i should imagine not many ,pigeon shooters sit in a hide and try to attract the woodies on to rape and other crop fields using decoys etc ,so im not saying there arent any mistakes etc but i should say theyare few and far between......pete also you say your not against the culling so why describe it as barbarism
Guest spin cycle Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 tricky one this...i shoot a bit but until i kept racers i wouldn't neccesarily have been able to differentiate by flight. also people do get 'red mist'. i've not seen racers go for rape where most field shooting goes on...more cereals( stubble / freshly sown) . i wouldn't say its a big problem unless you get someone determined to shoot anything....and i'm afraid you do get them. DOVEScot Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 Some people pay to shoot clay pigeons so why not waist amunition on live ones whether woody or racer, to some it is just a fun day out not interested in culling wood pigeons for the benefit of farmers they will shoot anything for target practice :-/

stewarty dove Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 over my ten plus years off shooting i have never came across a shooter that has down a racer i agree some rock doves and ferals but never a racer. i do know that there is a lot of shooitng companies that bring over boys from italy and such places and i do know that they will shoot at most things that move in the air and on the ground which is a big no no. hard topic as there will be a lot for the shooting and a lot not for it. i have just started to race now and find it more fun in a way cheers :) :)

stewarty dove Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 yes i agree , we all should be able to air our thoughts.

pjc Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 I was brought up shooting and if you can't tell the difference between woodie and racer you shouldn't be shooting! Its a shame more ferels arn't shot as its them that give ours a bad name! Paul10121968, theres a lot near you that want shooting i understand some ex fancier just dumped his birds out on the street and got rid of the lofts! It would certainly do the council a favour to shoot em and get them gone!
ChrisMaidment08 Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 now i can comment on this phil we removed over100 birds in pauls naigbours gardens for councle peaple are cick of mess and them on window ledges

pjc Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 Spin Cycle, these days its such a performance to get a shotgun licence which would be required for this shoot along with maybe a game licence that the majority taking up the oportunity will know what they are doing. Phil Chris, the fancier should have been shot! Do you know him Paul?

ChrisMaidment08 Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 ex fancier still lives there but denys they are his all peaple round there say they are
DOVEScot Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 maybe of topic a bit, but how about shooting the so called ex fancier for dumping his birds? I think fanciers are on the protected species list, bottom some may say as you get less for shooting a fancier than you do for a hawk ;D ;D ;D
pjc Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 trouble is these days it is difficult to clear them with out the doogooders getting on there soap box.
