I'm not really sure that its purely a ventilation problem. Some people are sensitive to pigeon proteins, and there is a recognised allergy to it called pigeon fanciers lung.

The medical advice is that you should wear a mask in the loft, especially when cleaning it out.

I spoke to the consultant chest specialist that is dealing with Billy, who now has been diagnosed with pigeon lung and there seems to be different types or stages.

He has had test results back confirming pigeon lung, but they are awaiting other test results to see if he has the worst form of pigeon lung, which is a fungus in the lungs which makes him totally alergic to pigeons and any dealings with them could kill him.

As I say not sure if it is different types or stages, I will ask the consultant when I meet him next :-/

Just to clarify my last post in light of Duncan's post on pigeon fanciers lung.

The medical advice I was speaking of about wearing a mask was for those fanciers who don't have pigeon lung, i.e have normal levels of tolerance.

As far as I understand it, the medical advice for fanciers diagnosed with pigeon fanciers lung is not to keep pigeons, or at least not to share the same space with them. 'The rabbit hutch' lofts is one way that some sufferers have got round the 'same space' problem, but as Duncan says, I would think it will depend on how severe your condition is.
