A carrier pidgeon is hanging around my front step

I know nothing about birds - I am in Glen Burnie, Maryland - a carrier pigeon (I think) showed up on my front step 3 days ago.  We had some wild bird seed, and so we threw a handful out for her, and went off shopping.  When we came back 4 hours later, the bird was still there, and looking at us expectantly.  It seemed very tame, didn't act ill at all, and so we gave it some more bird seed, and a bowl of water.  It flew off later that day and was gone, but the next morning was back.  It stayed all day, and finally we gave it some more seed, and it ate it and hung around, again flying off at night.  Today is the third day it has shown back up, I am starting to think maybe feeding it was a mistake (D'oh!), but it looked lost and lonely and hungry that first day.  It has a blue band on the right foot that says 625 WITCH from as close as I can tell, and on the left foot it has a black plastic band, that looks like it has a place to stick the tiny roll with the secret message on it.   What should I do?  Picture of bird here:

first of all  thank you for showing kindness to one of our birds, sweep up all the excess seed and put it in a small bowl then get a box,  put the  seed in the box  about the size of a crisp box 60cm x40cm  then when bird goes in to the  box quickly gap the end of the box, the pigeons  don't bite or any thing like that  take a note of the ring  number and look it up in your address book for  racing pigeon unions in your  local area      explain to  the union the ring number and he will advise you as he will then know who to contact   thanks again  hope you  can catch the bird but should you fail  not to worry. as you have help the bird  gather its strength
