Lennut Tar Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 Hi all what a great site I would really like to take up racing pigeons how hard is it and any advise please on getting started Was thinking of having about 4 to start with to get used to things thanks Wecome aboard newcomer, you could be in for a trip of a life time ??????? ;) now, or you could crash & burn dramatically & be destroyed. it's all in your hands etc now. It's hard as blazes at the worst of times :'( :'( :'(, but if you knuggle down & do the hard work required to be successful & have good birds, you will be in paradise with what you can achieve in this great sport at times etc, & with a bit of luck, you will make some life time friends which you will treasure till the day you die. Enjoy ;D ;D ;D & all the best in the future.
pjc Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 I take it Walsall Dave, your from Walsall? Have you any experience of pigeons at all? If not is there anybody on the site that is prepared to mentor you and take you under there wing? Phil
walsalldave Posted April 29, 2008 Author Report Posted April 29, 2008 hi thanks for the quick response no never had pigeons before just somthing i have all ways wanted to have a go at ye from walsall mate
pjc Posted April 29, 2008 Report Posted April 29, 2008 The first thing to think about is getting yourself a loft or a suitable shed you can convert. If you have a look in begginers info and members photo's you will get some ideas on the sort of thing you will be looking at. Hopefully there may be a member in your area that can give you advice and that may invite you to look at there set up and birds to help you with ideas. Phil

Castleview Posted April 30, 2008 Report Posted April 30, 2008 before even getting any birds or a loft read as much as you can on keeping and racing pigeons try your local library or find somebody near to you and learn from them Hi Dave, I'm from Walsall, well was live in Dudley now. First thing you have to find out is whether you can have racing pigeons on your property. If you live in a council house you might have to ask the council for permission. If you own the house you should be okay and nothing to worry about. Choose your birds wisely too and be prepared to pay a little for you stock. There's a few on here who have good quality birds and are willing to breed or part with some towards the end of the year. I've had some ace birds from Vallance Lofts, although the one will have to go back because of her being loaned. Just ask and we'll all help.
