globalgirl Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 Hi guys Am very excited as my new shed has arrived today for my pigeons. Just wondered if anyone has any adivce for me. I want to put it up near to my back door so I can scare away the many cats that are round here. They dont tend to come up to the front of the house. The shed near me at the moment which Drop Wing is in get the sun on it but can get very hot. The one at the bottom of the garden which has Blackie in it gets hardly any sun and the cats pester him down there. Thanks guys xx :K)
Guest racer Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 try and get a cat alarm i have one and no probs with cats
pjc Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 The birds do like some sun on the loft and if it's secure the cats will get fed up and leave them alone but a cat deterent will work for some cats but not all! Phil
Guest shadow Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 sheds with livestock in them should be 5 meters from your house that way if any neighbours complain you are not breaking planning regulations
Guest chrisss Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 sheds with livestock in them should be 5 meters from your house that way if any neighbours complain you are not breaking planning regulations thats uk planning regulations, i think you find madam comes from the states.
micko and jack Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 not to sure if this will help or even a good idea with pigeons maybe some of the older hands may have i thought on this scatter gun if that fails go to google and type unwanted cats micko http://www.scottsofstow.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product1_-1_17629_10551?mediacode=SN02&GLTT=SN02&gcid=S18994x033-scatterca&keyword=getting%20rid%20of%20cats&cm_mmc=PPC-_-Google-_-Scatter_Cat-_-getting%20rid%20of%20cats
globalgirl Posted May 13, 2008 Author Report Posted May 13, 2008 Thanks for all your advice. I'm actually from the uk and i didn't know about the planning regulations so I may have to rethink that but as there is only 2 birds i may be ok. I'm very honest with my neighbours about what i'm doing so i think if they had objections they would say so. I have actually bought a cat repeller but i live in a masionette and the people above me have a cat which actually does not come into my garden but I think this may cause him some discomfort which I would never want. I've spoken to my neighbours and am gonna try albass oil to start which they have suggested then maybe some lion pellets but I still wanted them near to me as Drop Wing seems so much better by being up this end of the garden. I'm just a little concerned about how hot it may get inside the shed with the sun on it for most of the day. What kind of ventilation do I need. Obviously I'll have the little sticky out bits where the windows thould be (which i'm sure have a proper pigeon house name but damned if I know it!) but it still seems quite stuffy in there. Any ideas on how to combat this? Veeery tired now. Just back from New York and not slept yet so its off to bed for me. Have tucked in my pidgies and kissed em good nite!!!! :K)
