When I started up I got a simlar reply to Amar, first club sec I spoke to told me to go and get a few tumblers and try flying them for a year or two before you think about racing pigeons,

I was just lucky that the next club I went to are a great bunch and the sec has helped and guided me no end through my first year flying ybs.

As a newcomer I think the bigest problem the sport faces is weak leadership, while you have clubs dictating who can or cant join the sport, it really is a case of the tail wagging the dog

Do people on this forum think that there is enough done from clubs, feds, unions etc and all other different partys for to attract new fanciers to the sport, and whats the answer.

difficult question. clubwise its down to what members want to do...my clubmates gave me a lot of help and now i'm in a position to help a new starter if 1 came to our club. i thought about suggesting a 'new members evening'....but if we had a big influx of newbies it could cause problems with personalities clashing and infrastructure.....so perhaps slow steady growth is better....we try for 1 /year. i do think forums on the web like this help...as i'd thought of starting in racers  a few years before but couldn't find any info..now anybody considering starting could come across this site or others and see what a happy band we are(dizzy) :)
