If it's two days since the first baby hatched then I'd be inclined to remove the other egg as it will make a heck of a mess if it breaks. Replace it with a potato, it helps to stop a single youngster developing splayed legs.

Sue, there's a trick in every trade! Same size potato as an egg, or the size of a squab? Many thanks :-)

Erm.....just a bit smaller than the squab I think. You don't want it to squash it. ;)

Many thanks Debbie.  It's the bird I'm proud of, as I've only just helped him along.  Am very pleased though :-)

Well don't worry about it too much David  ;) ;) ;) One could say ??????????? now. We have a few potato heads here  :P :P :P, so it's always handy to know the size required.

Enjoy.

Think you got little while yet before you got worry about ringing it if your not going to race why dont you just get yourself some address rings to put on it

Thanks Debbie.  Although you never know - never say never!  But, I've ordered some phone number quickie rings too, which all three are having on.  Belt & braces.

A towel, a blunted cocktail stick, a tub of vaseline, an ice cube wrapped in some kitchen towel.

A wierd fetish that I'm sharing with you?  No!  My first ever banding, successfully accomplished yesterday evening.  With thanks to Merlin for his generosity in sending over the rings, and to the other members who have given me tips on what to do.  I felt well prepared, but a little apprehensive being a novice.  But:

how is the little fella doing?

Hi Phil. Thanks for asking. Every day I go in there, the little one looks totally different. Really growing and feathers thickening up. 14 days old now. Mum and dad no longer on bowl but keeping tabs. In fact, little one not in nest bowl any more,  but in box behind bowl. Is this normal, or should I lift back into bowl? Will take update pic in next few days. Mum and dad doing really well too. Addicted to peanuts!

I wouldn't worry to much about him coming out of the bowl. If there were other birds in your loft then they could attack it but you havn't got that problem.

What you will prob find is that the hen will lay again in the bowl in a few days, ready for the next population explosion!

Oh Christ ;-) pardon me. Yes, the signs are there, I think.

The pigeon in the kitchen's baby is now 16 days old.  Is s/he looking how you'd expect a 16 day old to look?  Picked it up today to clean the box out - lovely strong wings.

Squeeks a lot to call for food.  Is that why they're called squeekers?  Sorry, but it's early days in the world of the pigeon for me :-)
