invalidusername Posted July 26, 2008 Author Report Posted July 26, 2008 Thanks Phil. You can't quite see Blue Boy's moult from these pics. I've got a few more where from a distance, it's very hard to tell them apart. Thanks again for your help and that offer which I'm really excited about. Cheers
pjc Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 did you read my earlier post? How are the nerves now? Phil
invalidusername Posted July 26, 2008 Author Report Posted July 26, 2008 haha! It all came together, and I'm used to trying to look calm on the outside but I have to say when I stood in that shed with the door closed and it was on a knife edge whether they'd fly off again or actually come in through the sputnik, it was heart in the mouth stuff! Once dad came in, I felt it was a matter of time, but at one point, I thought I'd be in that shed all night ;D ;D ;D
ChrisMaidment08 Posted July 26, 2008 Report Posted July 26, 2008 thats acracking pair of young birds you can be proud of them befor anyone says anything he has to have care right and he certanly has
invalidusername Posted July 26, 2008 Author Report Posted July 26, 2008 Chris, I really appreciate that. Bluey (going into the Sputnik on the pics) is the pigeon (that was) in my kitchen, and is 4 yr old, but his baby is about 4-5 weeks. I hope I can keep them both (at least) until they're very old birds :-)

pjc Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 Sure David will be looking for a proper loft within a couple of years and have a go at racing! Phil
invalidusername Posted July 27, 2008 Author Report Posted July 27, 2008 You may not be too off the mark, Phil. Time will tell ;D
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 Phil, Sure you will agree, you could not write the script for this thread. Its been a great story, that has not only inspired seasoned fanciers, but in time will also help bring people in to our great sport. Fantastic Well done David
Merlin Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 you may well laugh now, but we'll see! think you have got this one spot on Phil. ;) ;)
pjc Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 I realy do hope a story is written about this experience as it would be some of the best publicity the sport will have even received! Phil
Guest Vic Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 I can see it now, with Vic being portrayed as the big bad wolf! Once again. LOL.
invalidusername Posted July 27, 2008 Author Report Posted July 27, 2008 I realy do hope a story is written about this experience as it would be some of the best publicity the sport will have even received! Phil I've been promising to write an article for months, but just haven't had the time to devote to it. I will make the effort to do it. I can see it now, with Vic being portrayed as the big bad wolf! Once again. LOL. I don't think so! I had you down as little red riding hood - all innocent like ;-) ;-) ;D ;D LOL
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted July 27, 2008 Report Posted July 27, 2008 Vic,you just want to be the big bad wolf. But your a big softy really
invalidusername Posted July 29, 2008 Author Report Posted July 29, 2008 Hi Phil. Yes, he's out every evening. He hasn't been particularly far, but had 1½ hours out on Saturday (mainly on a neighbour's roof - but flew between theirs and mine a few times), Sunday was about 5 minutes, but I think they were a bit too hungry - and then yesterday evening, he had a walk around the garden and then flew onto the shed roof for about 10 minutes. As the weather wasn't too good, it was no bad thing (thunder in the air). I'm a funny sight when I get into the shed, start calling and shake the food hopper around ;-D
pjc Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 your doing a good job. Must admit I wouldn't have let the out in the thunder last night as the atmospheric preasure goes mad. After you have called them in for a few times by standing in the shed by shaking a food tub, calling them, whistleing etc then you can move outside the shed and do the same thing. They will know when that call comes there food will be inside waiting for them. You also get the pleasure of seeing them come down and going in. Phil
invalidusername Posted July 29, 2008 Author Report Posted July 29, 2008 Thanks Phil. I'll move onto stage 2 :-) I'm also seriously thinking about your suggestion of trying to get hold of another hen for Blue Boy, but with some wing clipping os that she doesn't fly off. I'm going to do some shed adaptions over the weekend, so hope it cools down - really humid here at the moment. I'm flagging.
pjc Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 it maybe worth thinking about putting the flight infront of the door so you go through the flight into the shed. That will reduce the risk of anything flying out past you and give them somewhere to come out into and have a bath etc during the day. Phil
invalidusername Posted July 29, 2008 Author Report Posted July 29, 2008 Cheers. I need to sort flooring out and do some chopping around, but that's a good suggestion. I water blasted the flight panels just after I got them, and am storing them dry in the garage. I need to do a few running repairs to strengthen them, but it's on my list without a doubt. Hope to be able to take a week or so off work to do it. David
pjc Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 you could just lay 4 paving slabs as a base and put it on there, easily hosed down and not to much work involved.
