pjc Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 David pm'd me about the eggs which I think are clear. You've done a great job David and i'm sure after all this time he will stay especialy when he knows if he goes out for a fly his hen is sat inside waiting for him. I would wait until they have reared 1 nest and are sitting another nest before you think of letting the hen out. Always keep them in on a saturday and if the weather is bad on a saturday then keep them in on sunday as there will be a lot of race birds about. Phil
Lennut Tar Posted June 13, 2008 Report Posted June 13, 2008 wont be long befor 40 8 is there Maybe so ????????? ;) But David !!!!!!, may be lacking in loft space somewhat if he did ;D ;D ;D & we all know what comes next :) . When you find yourself in that predicament, in most cases. Enjoy.

Enthralling Indeed! lol. My apologises old fella ;D ;D ;D not all of us here ;) are gifted with your wisdom ???????????? & humour !!!!!!!!!!!. So we just do the best we can, with what we have etc. Now !!!!!!! if you had sent a better class of citizen down here & not all that convict stock/rubbish etc, like you did 200 odd years ago "Just perhaps now" my skill level would have been somewhat up to your standard :P . Unfortunately !!!!!!!! that was not the case :'( :'( :'( I'm afraid. So you will just have to ;D ;D ;D ??????? & bare it I'm afraid, at least in my case. PS, All bullsh*t aside now, don't you reckon our wee pigeon, has brought a lot of enjoyment & interest to our site here. And never forget ;) now, he has had more hits ;D ;D ;D than Uncle Jack's eye sign clinic. Enjoy.
pjc Posted June 14, 2008 Report Posted June 14, 2008 What you mean Lennut, 200 years ago, were still sending you convicts and your welcome to them!! Phil

Merlin Posted June 14, 2008 Report Posted June 14, 2008 I myself would term this thread,"The feel good factor" reading about a person in the begining with no interest in pigeons, finding, caring, looking, for advice, and much ,much, more, all the while a certain amount of innocencei showing in his lack of knowledge of birds, till eventually arriving where he is at to day, shades somewhat of my own early years in pigeons, long befor the advents of this sport .shaped me into a possibile cynical old grizzlie, good luck and best wishes to Invalid and his birds, and his apparently enjoyable journey, and sod the begrudgers, one line quip, etc merchants, what shines through on this thread for me ,is the people in the majority do care, this is no bad thing,as the man from down under says,Enjoy
invalidusername Posted June 19, 2008 Author Report Posted June 19, 2008 Good to see the thread kept alive in my absence! Cheers :-) Some strange news for you all. Despite signs that the eggs were not destined to hatch (they looked like duds after taking advice, albeit based on a poor quality photo), I came home on Tuesday to see egg shell in the shed. Just a broken egg I thought. Birds still on the nest, taking it in turns. I'm not sure, but I think the pigeon from the kitchen may be sitting on... ... To be continued when I've confirmed what I suspect :-)
invalidusername Posted June 20, 2008 Author Report Posted June 20, 2008 ...definitely a squab! Whether one or two hatched remains to be seen (don't want to lift bird off bowl). So, the next chapter begins :-)

Lennut Tar Posted June 20, 2008 Report Posted June 20, 2008 YES WE ARE ALL DADDIES!!!!!!!!! Yes !!!!!!!! we certainly are ;D ;D ;D & we have waited patiently for quite awhile :) now, one could say. For this momentous occassion to occur. Well done Grampa David :) , & another mouth to feed now. Enjoy.
invalidusername Posted June 22, 2008 Author Report Posted June 22, 2008 Great news! Thanks, Phil. Still an unhatched egg in the nest, but the miracle squab is doing well. Growing nicely (though I've not seen it all yet). I can wait :-) Pic as soon as I can get a good one :-)

Enthralling Indeed! lol. Vic we cannae all be big distance racers from day one, also some of us just enjoy keeping pigeons surely there is room in the world for all types, did you not suggest killing it and take away the pleasure, not your type of pleasure granted, but David's pleasure in nursing it back to health and now breeding from it :-/

invalidusername Posted June 23, 2008 Author Report Posted June 23, 2008 Now David, what you going to do with it? Well, I won't be going into heavy training with it, as I don't want to risk losing it (with there only being one), but I'm going to let it have good flys out - in the knowledge that at least it'll come back ;-) Maybe - just maybe, there might be some more later! Took a pic yesterday - not the greatest of views, but will post it this morning.
pjc Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 if your going to ring the babe david then you need to do it at 5-7days old Phil
invalidusername Posted June 23, 2008 Author Report Posted June 23, 2008 if your going to ring the babe david then you need to do it at 5-7days old Phil That's this week then. Bugger!! I've asked someone for some advice - thought I had a bit mnore time. I guess I just need to get one from anywhere, and then worry about transferring later. The unexpected birth has caught me on the hop :-( Here's the best pic I managed to get yesterday without disturbing anything:
invalidusername Posted June 23, 2008 Author Report Posted June 23, 2008 I'm always blown away by the genrosity of people here. Thanks so much to Merlin and David L for the offer of rings today, and to PJC for this advice. I'm going to get the vaseline out to make sure that this novice does it properly. The three birds are also having telephone number rings too for good measure. Thanks again to everyone :-)
