James_Wardell Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Hello everybody, A good friend of mine wants to get pigeons from Southampton to Rabat, Morocco (where he lives and races pigeons). Could anyone please suggest the best method of doing this? 8) Any advice much appreciated. Guest bigda Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 British air ways mate but quarantine policies apply
James_Wardell Posted January 6, 2009 Author Report Posted January 6, 2009 Thanks Bambling. If someone can leave or email me Colin Surtees number that would be great. Bigda - would I just need to crate them up and take them to Heathrow? Or would I have to let them know before? If anyone has done this - taken pigeons out of the country, please let me know.
OLDYELLOW Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 UPS do a pet service and quarentine could be done at the loft at the other end , but they would have to find out there countrys polocys out
Guest Freebird Posted January 6, 2009 Report Posted January 6, 2009 Not an easy thing to do. Visit the DEFRA website at http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/int-trde/imports/iins/birds/a10.htm I was trying to import Catalonian Tumblers from Barcelona and after getting all the paperwork sorted out I found there were not a lot of choices for flying them over. In fact there were no available air couriers from Barcelona. I found an animal courier who was prepared to deliver 12 birds overland for almost £600 (dizzy) and it was going to take them 5 days minimum. I would not keep a bird in a box for that length of time never mind the cost. This was within the EU so I think you will find it even more difficult to Morocco. Good luck anyway and please let us know how you get on. I'm now going to try and get some eggs from my Barcelona source and I think this is going to be the same trouble. If anyone has done this I would be interested to know how and any tips etc.
