Hi there, it depends on how old it is, I have just reared one that was tipped out of nest by magpies, if it cant fly or eat try hand feeding it with 4/5 dried peas and give it water from dropper, pays to keep it somewere quite as they are very shy /private birds, the good thing is they soon grow and eat for themselves, good luck with it.

at what age, as these need all types of foods and fruits, start by  getting your self a syringe if the bird is about 2-3"long mix up some semolina or boiled rice squash it up till like cream then take the syringe or such like and hold the birds beak open then push syringe down throat about half way and squeeze out liquid after about four syringes full two of water then every 3 hrs throughout the day last feed  9clock :) and mix in somefruit juice not to much or squash a pear better still baby food  hope this helps you,   you can make a type of  piping bag with a 2" nossle on the end so as to go down its throat ;)

hi thanks for that info, i found my wood pigeon on the lawn it was about 1 wk old, i have been feeding it, baby rice+water, porridge+water, blackberries, raspberries, EMP rearing food all feed by hand in a freezer bag with hole cut in corner. he has grown loads. He is flying around in double garage now i think he is about 27-30 day old. the problem is he pecks at food EMP or wild bird seed he gets it in is mouth and then doe not know what to do with it.  Any tips or advice on feeding by himself and i wll not let him go until he can feed himself.  Oh and where do you thinks is best to release him, where, when time of day, full crop etc.  I think ive not done a bad job so far to say im a beautician..........oh and i have got a cat

I would slowly cut back on the amount you feed and he will start eating for himself. Always have water available for him and let him know where it is by dipping his beak. Sounds like you are doing a great job. I would let him free where you found him as long as the cats not around. He may well come to visit and bring his kids to see ya. Have fun.

if you let him go make it early  and your are about that day as he might hang around for a while and you wouldn't want another cat to eat him would you

ring its neck or keep it , you cant ever let it go now , if you do decide to let it go it may well survive for a week or two but end of the day it will die , you have imprinted it now , you said you have a cat lol i wonder if your imprinted woody will know the difrence between your cat and another cat ? not to mention humans lol sory for puting the dampers on things but i dont like telling lies and bullshiting .
