globalgirl Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 Hello everybody, I got back yesterday evening and my mum told me Blackie came home but only narrowly escaped being cat fodder!! My mum was spening as much time as possible at mine but she had to go home to feed her cats and One Eye who is at my mums as she is so old now bless her we wanted her to be with somebody who is there all the time. When she came back she heard all this comotion in the back garden she ran round to find this bugger of a black cat, who ALWAYS bothers my poor babies no matter what I try to do, half way through the trap. My mum said another minute or two late Blackie would have been a goner. I know cats are supposed to have 9 lives but I'm sure Pigeons must have more. Anyway Blackie is VERY subjuded. He was quite antisocial before and wouldn't let me anywhere near him. Now he sits in the corner and lets me go right up to him. Gos know what happened to him on his little adventure but I think it might be a while before he does that again. Saying that I'm leaving him in the old loft for now as he just didnt settle in the new one. I bought a bigger one so he would have more room but he will not go in with Drop Wing as he attacks him quite severly. My stepdad split the shed in two but now its too small and its quite dark in the corner where Balckie is as the other loft is still up ad shadows the new one. I cant remove it cos of this court case and probate laws . I may have to get yet another shed as I dont know how much longer the old loft will stand up. Mind you I'm so glad it was still there as the new one has no trap. Just boxes. I have found a free cycle website so am gonna look on there to see if I can find an unwanted shed as money is much tighter now I'm with child lol!!! Thanks to everyone who messaged me with support and advice Nikki xx
gangster Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 great news to hear he is home and a real good looking bird i might add.......
pjc Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 glad he's home, i don't think you need to worry about getting a bigger room, from memory you have plenty of room in your new loft. Do they have a flight that they can go out into and enjoy the sun etc?
globalgirl Posted November 2, 2008 Author Report Posted November 2, 2008 Thanks guys. I'm assuming a flight is what I call boxes lol!!! stuck on where the windows should be. However, blackie is in the corner and it doesn't get much light cos the other loft is overshadowing it. I'm gonna have to have a HUGE rethink. Poor little love is so freaked out. I stroked him today for the first time. He would never let me get anywhere near him before. That black cat is still lurking around so I'm off out today to get a sonic cat repeller. I didn't think it was fair on the cat upstairs as he used to sit out on the window but NEVER came in my garden. WEll its winter now so he doesnt do that. The gloves are off now I will see off that pesky cat lol!!
pjc Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 have a look at something like a sputnik that will allow the birds to have a look arround, enjoy some sun and if you want them to go in and out. This would fit in place of a window.

globalgirl Posted November 2, 2008 Author Report Posted November 2, 2008 This is a picture of new shed and in relation to old shed. I had no option as to where to put the new one as I had to leave the old one there for probate. There is another shed nearer to the house I may replace that one. I didn't want to replace the otherone as if I lose the court case I will have to take shed down and if there is no old shed there I would have to replace that one too. Would NEVER leave the pigeons as other family memebers wanted the pigeons destroyed when grandad died even though that was the most important thing to him. Making sure his pigeons were cared for. Well they do say you cant choose your family and I would chose my pigeons over most of them any day lol. Not my immediate family, they're lovely xx
PIGEONJIMI Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 The new shed looks more than adequte ? Given time im sure the birds will settle, glad to hear of Blackies return & remember " where theres a will...Theres a Relative"
Guest Freebird Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 It's good to know there are still people like yourself who can look deeper than the average person and take the time and effort to care for what was once your Grandads pride and joy. I'm sure he will be proud of his wee Grand Daughter and the way she is showing how much he meant to her. He must have been a real GEM and I'll bet you have lots of memory's of times shared with him. You keep up the good work and don't change for anyone no matter what. Once you get to grips with the whole pigeon thing I hope you can have them free flying in the heavens where they and you belong as you surely are an Angel. Take care and most importantly, have fun.
Guest IB Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 Older pigeons have a lot of sense and know what's what. I had an idea he'd come back after finding out his old home is no more. I think I know what has happened in the new loft; your veranda is too small, and one bird has likely claimed it as 'his'. You will probably solve it if you open up the whole of the front by building a full-length veranda - a bigger box and you'll find the birds will enjoy sitting out in it, rain or shine. If you have 2 sections, split the veranda in 2, so that you have one for each end. Cats are a pest. Even with your ultrasonic gizmo, double-check that everything is locked & secure, every day.
globalgirl Posted November 2, 2008 Author Report Posted November 2, 2008 I have split it in two hun but blackie just doesnt seem to lke it in there xxx
ChrisMaidment08 Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 i personally think beast thing to do with blacky is foster him out to a very exsperianced fancier as he will enjoy life much better i don't want to name anyone as it will seem like favoritism ;) ;D it would be better than being bored to have exciting life near wales
