lawrie Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 i let my yongsters out on friday and they still wont come in. tried shaking the corn tin a million times, whistling, leaving the loft open all day, using other birds to lure them in and still they wont come in. they just sit on the roof all day and dont move. how do i get them to come in? please help!
gangster Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 wow has something been in the loft and scared them??????????????
ChrisMaidment08 Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 make sure they have no food at all just hadmy boys out three days nights co put um in his new shed i built they were in it week let out but no way would they come back in no food there in now and look really peed off
Peckedhen Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 This happened to me last week. On closer inspection, I could see cat prints on the sputnik! I put a few grains of seed on the landing board and, six came in, the following day I did the same, as well as putting a dish of seed inside the sputnik so that the inside ones went into the sputnik to eat. Hunger finally drove the remaining six in. Good luck.
lawrie Posted November 30, 2008 Author Report Posted November 30, 2008 im peed off cause i thought they would be alright because i let them sit in the trap and wonder out on to the loft roof, they came and went just fine. a few days later i let them out and they started to fly around a little more, and now they wont come in atall. got them on the landing bored lastnight but none of them went into the loft! ive changed nothing about the loft or anything like that, theres no cats as far as i know about. after almost 3 days wothout food you'd think they would be hungry by now?
phillips Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 food doesnt really matter mate its all about trust and routine if the bird doesnt trust you you have problems start letting them out at dusk cos natuarly the pigeon will come to roost at dust and over a period of lets say a wk draw in the hours of lettingg them out i can let my birds out fed or unfed and they will trap almost straight away but what ever doesnt trap do not reward and feed just shut the door it will soon learn the system in and fed out and hungry hope this helps
ChrisMaidment08 Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 trouble is they can see more than you from roof maybe naigbour has something they dont like around
taffacre Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Definately something has really scared them if they wont go into the loft,i would think you have a cat or stoat problem,if you do get a few in then watch them carefully,if its one of the 2 they WILL be back.
lawrie Posted November 30, 2008 Author Report Posted November 30, 2008 we have had birds for over a year and never had this problem, we have had the odd bird stay out for a few days but not 12 of them at the same time. thats all my youngsters! i stood for at least 5 hours yesteday trying to get them in. could it be possible that they dont want to come in?
ChrisMaidment08 Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 could it be you are rushing round and shouting which is stressing them?????
phillips Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 remember pigeons go roost at dusk stay in till then just open up shop they will enter no probs
phillips Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 when they go in give them reward when they dont go in give them nothig
ChrisMaidment08 Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 useually if bird stays out to long i dispose of but its new shed so chance this time bad habit or to fat when they get cold they want in
Guest Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 i had this last year it turned out to be cats dont have that prob.anymore sorted and i had the best season ever this year so alls not lost when you get m in keep them in untill you get to the botom of the prtheob and get it sorted it wont do them any harm to keep them in at this time of the year if you stand close to the loft it might give them a little cofidance to come in
lawrie Posted November 30, 2008 Author Report Posted November 30, 2008 i wasnt making any noise except shaking the corn tin. and i was 10 feet or less from the loft. hopefully they come in soon
Guest Vic Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Wrong time of the year to be experiencing this. Here Today, it's freezing. There must be a threat within your loft, or very close to the entrance. Normal observance should solve the problem. Good Luck.
lawrie Posted November 30, 2008 Author Report Posted November 30, 2008 ive looked everywhare, theres nothing there, not in a 20 foot radius anyway. no cat is going to wait around for 3 days is it?
Peckedhen Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 ive looked everywhare, theres nothing there, not in a 20 foot radius anyway. no cat is going to wait around for 3 days is it? Nope but something has spooked them - it maybe long gone now but they haven't forgotten. :-/
ChrisMaidment08 Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 can you get um on garden if you can try catch um put them in loft???
lawrie Posted November 30, 2008 Author Report Posted November 30, 2008 possible. so i should just wait for them to get hungry (which they will be now)? i just cant see what the problem is, makes me feel depressed! i keep thinking it wont be long till they go to another loft.
