Guest Owen Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 For cats you can not beat an electric fencer. Just about anything else carries a risk to it. For sparrow hawks, you do not have to harm them, just do the following. Build an aviary on your loft. Make sure the birds can retreat to an area of safety. When the sparrow hawk flies to the avairy and, ideally, hangs on the wire, lock your birds inside out of sight. Place a live catch hawk trap close to the aviary where the hawk normally goes. He will drop down into your trap. I find it best to relocate them. I know someone who has done this from time to time and he does not get troubled with hawks at all. He just moves them on. Both these solutions solves the problems without fuss or worry.
