jimmy white Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 on having a small stock loft,, with birds kept in,, these stockbirds really only move from perch [or box] to floor then back up again,, cutting a round ply wood circles , smaller than the base of the drinkers /feeders/grit /minerals ,,, placing this on stands about 4 ft high,, keeps the stock birds excercising their wings , when flying up to feed and drink each day,,, they can only grip the edge of the feeder/drinker , and will flap their wings more often every day this def. keeps the birds healthier and will stop them getting over fat and stodgy
Guest Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Been doing something similar for years and it definitely improves the fitness of prisoners
Guest strapper Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 i think my stock loft is 8ft by 10ft...then its got flights on the front thats open to them never shut off unless cleaning out. then another smaller loft beside it. i think they have to have some sort of exercise ,if they are kept stuck in all time then it can leave the door open to some problems
jimmy white Posted February 20, 2009 Author Report Posted February 20, 2009 maybe another wee tip for novices, with stock birds not getting out, is putting the earth from a freshly dug molehill into an unused drinker , they love a pick at this and would get some natural minerals,, but would only leave for one day, unless re-newing it ,, as , if left to get droppings on it could well cause health probs
Guest gladdo Posted February 20, 2009 Report Posted February 20, 2009 ive an idea maybe set up a table small just enough room bit of sand and put few handfulls of small feed and grit etc and they love it ..plus they on the search and its something to do for them ... give them plenty of baths also .... mikey
