Newbie2020 Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 I am new to the sport, and would like to know what is causing my pigeons to gargle with there beaks open? The noise they make is quite loud and very distinct, like a machine gun. I read the bird is just trying to cool himself down but is this normal?
Newbie2020 Posted April 12, 2009 Author Report Posted April 12, 2009 They only seem to do it on warm days.

Newbie2020 Posted April 12, 2009 Author Report Posted April 12, 2009 seen the open mouth before, but not heard the machine gun sound. you can hear it at the other end of the garden if its quiet outside the loft.

Guest Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 go into your loft and pickup one of your birds (after no exercise) put its beak to your ear and listen if you hear a rasping sound you may have a respiritory problem if so get them checked out by another more experienced fancier or vet when unfit and over weight usually they make a panting sound
