I am just at the begining of the training with my YB;'s for my release business and was wondering how you chose where to let them out? High places? open places? beside roads? in fields? I have done two tosses at a mile I have a memorial service to do on Sunday 4 miles away. What should be my plan for the week? :)

you might want to give saturdays a miss, lots of racers in the air on that day.

old saying if in doubt leave it out. if your yb,s are ranging going a mile or 2 is no good take them at least 5 and for the time being put all up together. pigeons are a flock animal and a yb on its own will join other birds given a chance.as for Saturdays training i would definitely not do it . on Saturdays the best you can do is keep birds in till a bit latter in the afternoon. my 1st point of training is 10 mile from loft.also try and let birds go in an open area.

if they havent" ranged" much and are still quite young , and you have had them a mile,, maybe try stepping each mile to the 4 miles  2 then 3 then at the place where the service is,,sometimes better letting them settle in the basket b4  releasing them , maybe in an open field  with no wires around :) good luck :)

I think your training will be a bit different from training racers. You basically want your birds to home from any direction, in almost any weather condition. Start by looking at your market area, where are your releases likely to be? Churches? Hotel car parks? Then these are the places that I'd train from, starting at the nearest to your loft and working outwards, in no specific direction, although it helps with their fitness if you go in the opposite direction to the wind: a west wind, head east etc. Scouting the release points in advance will be to your advantage, you'll be able to pick spots that are open, free of telephone wires and other obstacles like tall buildings, gable ends and tall trees. Aim is to give the birds the best chance of getting quickly & safely up in the air, and your clients & family & friends may want to watch that too, I've been watched & photo'd doing mine, for races.  :)
