Guest mick bowler Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 LONGFORD (3) 05/09/2009 LIB 11.05,STRONG SW WIND 1st DARIUS DYKOWSKI 951.11 2nd DALE HOPKINS 946.01 3rd ANDREW BEVERIDGE 728.13 4th RICK HILTON 664.17 5th JAMES CASH 659.81 6th AMBY GREHAM 657.62 The Ballina RPC held its third race from Longford, in what turned out to be very testing conditions for both birds and their owners, on what was one of the worse weekends of a summer i have seen in a long while! six members sent 49 birds, slightly down due to birds moulting conditions and the unpredictable weather we are having. Taking the red card was Darius Dykowski. This was Darius' first win and a well deserve one at that, he currently flies from just outside of castlebar some 15 miles south of Ballina, and with the wind being a strong SW meant his bird would of broke for home on its own against the drag. It was gifted to Darius as an egg from a friend in Poland, being from French birds. In second was our youngest member once again, Dale Hopkins, who is 14 this month. Dales bird was a red hen from the Cormack scottish bloodlines, which has been responsible for all Dales prizewinners this season. If there are averages awarded at the end of the season then Dale must be the front runner both as a fancier and as an individual bird award. Andrew "Bev" Beveridge takes the yellow card. Bev's bird was a full brother to the one that has been in the clock most weeks for him. Again bred from the Robert Cormack lines, as i said before, it appears these birds suit the harsh conditions we face in normal racing here. maybe a lesson for all the Ballina RPC members. Returns were once again pretty good, but judging by the drop in velocities, the birds were really up against it and it proved a testing race. Well done again to all competitors.
