crizmor13 Posted August 24, 2009 Report Posted August 24, 2009 hi. i am a young fancier. i am 18 and in my 4th season of racing. as i started young i had various members trying to help me out with feeding programmes ect. i very much appriciated all there help but the thing is that most of these programmes are very conflicting to each other and also very vauge in information and just the basics scribbled down on a piece of paper. this has confused me as to what the best feeding programme is. one of the top fliers i my club told me that you should go with what you think as i have enough expeirence now. so i did this year with great training succese and i was hoping for a good season. but i got YB sickness and have only raced once. the reason i am posting this is to find out if my own feeding programme is worth carrying on in next year as i cant really tell because my birds werent really trained enough to be able to tell properally if racing succes would follow. one fancier told me that with my programme the birds were feed to light for 100 mile races!!! the came extremly well from what training they got. my feeding was: 50% Gerry Plus, 25% Junior O,25%PLX. i feed them this until the day before basketing when i changed to 40%Gerry, 30% PLX , 30% Junior O. the birds were trained 24 miles each day for the last week averaging 28-35 mins depending on conditions. i raced once from 100miles and took 14th and 15th in a very strong club. this would have been in the top 30 or so in the Fed also i believe. the 2 birds in question came from the wrong direction as it was their first race and they over flew. the thing is if i had fed them different would they have come quicker or am i doing ok and just got unlucky with them over flying on the day? our 2nd club came from our estate and my birds were 8 mins or so behind his bird. my returns were 9 out of 11 within 3 hours and 1 returing the next day. i know this is alot of info but i belive that i will help when giving me advice. yours in sport chris
jimmy white Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 im really sorry to hear of your bad luck in the past year, in contracting this dreaded yb sickness, this seems to be more common these last few years , than at any other time, although there is much advise on this on the forum, i have found that stress is the main factor in this disease,, off course yb,s will be put through stress in racing and training, but to avoid any unnecessary stress is a must,, i,e overcrowding, under ventilation etc,.... in your case dont think youve had a fair crack at your feeding/racing system because of this disease, i dont see anything wrong in this system, but sure wish you better luck next year , to at least try it, best of luck
the dude Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 agree with jimmy dont think you are far off the thing with yb sickness you must spot it early stages corn on perches wont come in when called etc if you spot it in your loft do not feed 48 hrs then feed very light rest of week cruel you may say but has worked for me everytime but do not get me wrong some times not always yb sickness a lot of paramyxi going round dont let this put you off most times all ok only other tip have milton in water for coming home from race the very best of luck 2010
mark croker Posted October 25, 2009 Report Posted October 25, 2009 what amount are you feeding ? All i can say is observe your birds, with this you should no how much to feed, dont do the exact thing people say just take the bits that work for, what i work by is you cant beat the champs doing the same thing, do some test, see how much the birds eat in hot and cold weather, how they react to feeding after training in certain winds, this will help you on the way to sucess, good luck
