Guest ROCKYandRAMBO Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 its just the cold it will put her off laying and raiseing young
Guest youngboy Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 reasons hens might go down late could be to heavy!!! thats the only reason i no of! but i have a hen and she wont go down on eggs for 14 days she always does it but thats her pace!!
gulkie Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 to heavy to early to cold slow layers. in case u dont know, if u put ur finger down to the vent and press gently i stress gently ,and u will feel if there is an egg due.
BLUERON Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 i went in to loft today and found 3 eggs on floor this is side of loft were my together but not pair up
pjc Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 they need to be in the right condition and they will lay when ready but the birds seem to know better than we do!
Guest Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 to heavy to early to cold slow layers. in case u dont know, if u put ur finger down to the vent and press gently i stress gently ,and u will feel if there is an egg due. and dont go biting your nails afterwards. i wonder if ,in time we look back and say remember 2010 and the trouble we had with the cold and snow ?? andy.
pigeon pete57 Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 i dont think th cold has much to do with not laying more likely the condition of the birds.i have six pairs of stock birds on young in an avieryand i always pair early and havant had any problems. get the fat of the hens first then start feeding a good mixture to perk them up and away you go best of luck peter
b.w.c Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 I find they can be OK or slow to lay when you get a cold spell , paired up a fortnight gone Monday and about 2 thirds laid and they are healthy and in good nic . A mate paired his up a couple of weks before me when the weather was better and his laid no bother .I cannot remember a spell of weather as bad in 20+ years ,what I have found we had the lights on for the stock birds 2 weeks before pairing up from 5.30 am till daylight his did help as we now have 17 from 20 stock pairs laid ( a number of these fist time together).
