three of my stock hens,only laid 1,egg 2 of them are yearlings bred jan.2009 and a2year old,which reared 6young last year.is this down to the bad cold spell we had, or is something else wrong :-/ :B

I done a search for you and came up with this.

Question:

<p>My hens are put together with the cocks. They layed on day 12. 9 of them only layed one egg. I don't know if I should be worried I have a disease problem or something is going on with them. They are all very active and the stoul are normal?</p>

Dear Sir,This is indeed not normal. Allthough there is no indication for disease as the birds are active and have good droppings, I would nevertheless advise to let your birds be examined by your vet and take samples for the most common diseases. In case of egg laying problems especially paratyphus, streptococcus and E. coli could be a problem. But in any case a general clinical exam could bring some clarity. Also make sure the birds get enough minerals (calcium) and protein.Kind regards

it takes 2 days for second egg to be layed

well i think it must be the cold , or are your hens unfit or are they unwell , or did something upset them after first eggs was laid theres lots of reasons why they might not have laid mind you as you have had birds 25 years you tell me lol

since,i asked this question 2 of the eggs have hatched,and other 1 chipping never had this before with such young hens.really old hens yes it does happen.      strange one
