blaz Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 just a theory .the last 2 night the site crashed just before 9 the 1st night just after the next night .no problems the following night. with x amount of members trying to post a bid at the same time on to the same thread. i think this is what made the site crash . as i said just a theory.

Its near enough right The site should cope with a large amount of members - Its looking like the activity is causing the problem (Clicking, refreshing, posting etc) Best way to describe it is when the National grid goes down in places due to high demand such as half time in big football matches, cornonation street etc with kettles being clicked etc. Hopefully we will be sorted shortly one way or another
holmsidelofts Posted February 10, 2010 Report Posted February 10, 2010 Quite strange that though i have my own websites and rent server space and have never had an issue with server down time, Its not as if there are thousands on at one time. what you probably find is that the server we are sharing with other sites are on a very busy server with sites that are getting huge hits and we suffer from it, It aint to do with the amount of members on this site thats the issue.

Dead on, I own a load of servers and its down to other sites on the same server taking resources, the host this server is on is a cheapy but one of the better cheapies around, they don't tell the customers how many other sites are hosted on the same server but in truth it could be hundreds if not thousands, if any of them were having a surge of traffic that would cause every other site on the server to suffer just like vallance explained. That's the problem with VPS accounts, they have their ups and downs.

Ideally you want your own server not a shared one, that way you dont get the issues, but it comes down to cost, you are talking about anything upto and above £100 a month for rental of your own server. sites like this couldnt do that without charging membership and thats the great thing about sites like this they cost members nothing unless they would like to contribute. Problems happen but im grateful to the owners of the site for giving us a community that gives us all a place to hang out and talk pigeons. server downtime is a pain but it sometimes happens. to be honest we should all contribute to the up keep of the site by donating to the site that way we probably could change servers but until then i think we need to be grateful for what we have at the moment
