It can happen at either end of eye laying i.e young hens first eggs or an old hen , better to have one good egg than two poor ones and single reared always look better , when was first egg laid ???? and if 2 days have passed very unlikely you'l get the second egg  ;)

this year i had a hen lay her first egg and it took 3 days before she laid her second , and now one has hatch and the other is not even chipping yet so i floated the hatched youngster under a pair who had a clear egg and there youngster hatched on the same day , and before any one asks how will i know the difference one of the youngsters will be white lol its all pink , also has any body ever had a hen lay 3 eggs as last yer all my stock had layed bar one pair then she laid one egg then the second egg came then two days later another egg came and it couldnt of been another hen as they was all sitting and all three hatched on the same day

never known a hen lay three eggs its usualy another hen laying in another bowl  :-/ but have on occasions noticed if they sat first egg you can end up with two days difference in the ybs as first egg is hovered over and only incubated after second egg is laid so eggs hatch roughly at same time or within a day
