Guest newcomer Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 I have been reading up on the shape of wings from different magazines and I have been reading some very conflicting reports of the ideal wing shape, could any one help. Should the wing have a step in it or not, should the flight feathers be sharp like a scissor or rounded at the end, does any of this effect the birds flying strengths in anyway. Does these differences make a great deal of difference for the bird flying different distances. Any advice on this or feathers in general and what to look for in the bird, size, shape wing measurements would be more than welcome.
Guest Owen Posted March 22, 2010 Report Posted March 22, 2010 I am sure that there is an ideal wing shape to give the birds a best chance at the differant distances. Most British pigeons are expected to compete at all distances so selection must be of a general type. If you buy pigeons from a loft that specalises in a certain type of race and has been successful over the years, you will have birds with a wing that suites the purpose. I doubt if anyone here in Britain could be certain of what wings do what. We never get the chance to become accustomed to the various wing types. I think you would need to look at the Belgium specialists to get a proper understanding of which wings are best for what. Failing that, why not do as I do, breed from your winners. Then Nature will take care of what is best for you.
