the birds are all fantails my nest-box problem I have 8 boxes all the same construction 2 pair are on chicks after reading up a bit I put a second nesting bowl into their boxes 1 pair is ok with it and building a nest the other pair are trying out other nest-boxes and chased a pair about to lay out of their box I got the 2 birds and locked them in their box with their chicks second nest-bowl water and feed with some grit mixed threw it and intend to keep them there until the other pair lay am I doing the right thing thanks micko

With only 8 boxes etc, my view is !!!!!!!!! you should still allow the pair/pairs causing trouble etc an hour or 2 in the loft each day, on there own. Just lock the rest of them in there boxes when you do it. To me they would be more contented & will help them settle down quicker. Always a good idea too, to have a shelve in each breeding box in my view, it just allows the seperation of each round of youngsters from when the hen is down on eggs again.

I have had a similar problem with a couple of W/H yearling cocks. regarding nest box domination. After conditioning them, towards marking night, I have two, that go tooth and nail at each other. In fact, out of a possible six races, they have only competed in three each, because of their bloody torn wattles. I can't turn my back on 'em, so have decided to have one locked up at different times all of  the time. They are a pain in the *expletive removed*, so to speak. Seen nothing like it!
