Guest Owen Posted May 23, 2009 Report Posted May 23, 2009 Here near Pontypool we see the dance of death often. I think it is rare to see a Falcon catch a Pigeon in a straight chase. And I have noticed that Widow Cocks seem to handle Falcons very well, providing that they are fit. It's the youngsters that come off worse. And later in the year when the Falcons are hunting in family groups the pigeons are at their most vulnerable. I have seen five Falcons go after one pigeon and force it up so that it can not dive for safety. Two will fly under the pigeon, keeping it up and three will take turns at striking at it. Eventually, the pigeon will get caught because of the effects of panic and exhaustion. I have even seen them playing with young Jackdaws. Probably to teach the young Falcons to hunt.
