Hi all, Just a little story of my own about a cat.

I had my doves under a homing net for around 6 weeks and at around the 5Th week stage a cat pounced on a bird and had hold of it through the net pinning it to the floor and this all happened as i was looking out of the patio doors.

I open the doors very quick and shouted which made the cat turn, look and then run.

The Dove just went and sat in the corner.

I went in under the net and picked him up, had a look at him and his wing was slightly twisted and blood on his chest.

now what do i do?,

So i lifted him up onto a perch and kept a close eye on him.  So I had a few days where i had to lift him up of the floor at dusk, and he came down again in the morning for a drink and some seed, So i thought he is eating so he may just be OK.

After a few days his belly wound formed a scab and i thought it might not make it and he was infected, But today i had a look at him and his scab has gone, Dose this mean the scab has fell of and he really is getting better, I do hope so and he must be the luckiest bird alive.

Cats mouths and claws [or the place they keep claws when retracted] are said to full of bacteria which can kill wounded prey. Only one experience of that yonks ago, I missed a bird that was perched-up but had been wounded underneath wing (looked no further than the  pile of dead on the floor). The wounded bird was dead on the floor the morning after.

So if your bird has survived this long and wound has healed I don't think you have a problem, especially as bird is eating & drinking. Its easy for the bird to get down onto the floor [just like breaking a fall] its a lot harder to get off the floor. The wing is probably bruised and may take a week or two yet to clear up enough to let bird take to the air again.

Thanks IB,

Yes, He was flying again about 2 weeks after his close shave, But still not as good as the others but is up and about again.

I had heard about bacteria in salver and it could take a while before he died, Thats why i was so concerned about him.
