Glassfeather Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 Ummmm.....yes, that's Ash red, it is dominant, but then there is the other red, that's recessive red, it's recessive but not sex-linked, it's autosomal so it is located on a different chromosome other than the z chromosome, so both sexes can carry it as a recessive. Just to illustrate, this is an Ash red bar (Mealy) pigeon: This is an Ash red chequer pigeon: and this is an Ash red spread pigeon: This is a recessive red pigeon:
Guest Posted January 21, 2006 Report Posted January 21, 2006 Chatrace is this real colours? is it homers or doves ?
jimmy white Posted January 23, 2006 Report Posted January 23, 2006 an red cheq is and ash red that is checkered, ash red is barred. A pigeon that is half blue check and half ash red check would likely be a mosaic. In very simple terms this is when part of the bird has one set of genes governing and the other part has another set. The difference can be colour or some other physical trait such as frill. It does not seem to be passed on to offspring. Hope this helps, Jimmy FOUND OUT SPEIGHT THAT THIS BIRD IS A GENETIC BILATERAL MOSAIC [MICHAEL S] HE CALLS THIS THE SIAMESE TWIN TYPE [WOULBNT LIKE TO WRITE THAT ON THE RACE ENTRY FORM ;D ;D ;D]

MsPigeon Posted January 26, 2006 Author Report Posted January 26, 2006 Chatrace is this real colours? is it homers or doves ? I know of a release business in my neck of the woods that dies their white pigeons to match the wedding colors. They just put their hand over the pigeons face and dip them in a bucket of water and rit die. They have even suggested that an off colored bird flying with their team keeps the hawks deterred.
Glassfeather Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 In the sueltas in Spain they dye the pigeons according to the owners' colours, a bit like jockey silks: http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/Glassfeather/pica.htm
