Guest Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 Never mind the throat. I think what comes out the other end can tell you a lot more about your birds health NOT REALLY ,DROOPINGS CAN BE PERFECT BUT THROAT CAN BE FULL OF CANKER REPIRATORY ETC AND IN MY OPINION IS A GOOD INDICATOR OF HEALTH ;D ;D ;D
jimmy white Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 with due respect sammy , i think if you had the droppings tested would tell you more i.e if you can see the canker down the throat, its been" incubating" it for a while b4. , chances are ,by this time it would have some secondry infection which would show up in the droppings , but i agree with you on canker, a swab test would be advisable in this case , but the post is regarding the theorie of the throat,i,e the curtain etc, which to me is less important , than the quality of the droppings
David Home Posted July 10, 2007 Report Posted July 10, 2007 NOT REALLY ,DROOPINGS CAN BE PERFECT BUT THROAT CAN BE FULL OF CANKER REPIRATORY ETC AND IN MY OPINION IS A GOOD INDICATOR OF HEALTH ;D ;D ;D Canker starts off in the upper digestive tract. It is a motile parasite so quickly spreads to the throat and can cause respiratory problems. Before this though you WILL notice loose droppings. Hence the reasoning behind my post.
schouwman71 Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 some breeds have better homing ability than others, its bred into them through selection and getting rid of the others that dont pull the line, you need to develop natural homing instincts, some breeds do tend to search straight for home when released from a race point or training, dont know if any one else has noticed this but a pigeon has a better homing ability once he has spent a night or two out,and thats because he has had to use his own brains to get back up and search for home, some never do that but the ones that do tend to make winners or very consistent pigeons, theories are theories but lets be honest without these theories we wouldnt have the makeup of the pigeons we have today has there is always somethink there to get the edge on other fanciers by theories.Les

Guest Posted July 11, 2007 Report Posted July 11, 2007 I think lots of theories are about faith..........I saw lots of guys espouse on the eyes but only ever had faith and belief in one. As to the throat I'm 99% certain there is a sound foundation, why? because Frank Tasker says so and even though I have never met the man, he is one of very few who I would trust implicitly and he is to me in the handful of true champions over the last four decades, Kirkland would be another and Cooper another.
jimmy white Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 aint had any loose droopings but sure have had canker ;D ;D ive had loose droppings ok,, ;D ;D ;D went through about 6 toilet rolls ;D ;D ;D i think we must remember theres many types of canker in a pigeon 20 odd, anyway
jimmy white Posted July 12, 2007 Report Posted July 12, 2007 i suppose ,to be honest ,, if you knew your birds well, you could tell a lot by the birds throat being healthy or not,, same as the eyes , but its just another indicator of health and top form , but i think the action and behaviour of the bird tells you more
