Cheers mate, been tested for canker and that's negative. Like you say they fly no trouble and I'm not losing them. Never heard of a yeast infection, what do you treat that with?

NYSTAN OR Y40

Never heard of those either! Sorry, who sells those? And is it ok to blind treat?

TRY YOUR LOCAL VET, AND DONT BLIND TREAT ,

Thought we could do with a new thread. Does anyone have any ideas for motivating YB'S flying to the perch? Mine fly for 2 hours a day, I've only lost 2 in 4 races and their droppings have been tested and are clear. I'm 10 mins behind every race. Any tips?

YOUR LEAVING YOUR RACE AT HOME,THERE FLYING TO MUCH FOR MY LIKING I DONT THINK THERES ANYTHING WRONG WITH THEM.

If they are flying for 2 hours per day I would suggest they have no medical problems. Just because they are behind doesnt mean they are ill.

The two main ways to motivate babies is the sliding door method or pair them up. I like them feeding 7 day babies

I have found the more you motivate youngsters the more they get beaten by a later bred bird  flying to the perch!!  ;D ;D ;D

Seriously though exercise well, train regularly, fill them with grub and the love of home 9 out of 10 times will do with youngsters!

Would caution against reaching for the medicine cabinet just because your birds are not performing as well as you'd like. If there was something wrong with them they wouldn't be exercising, and they wouldn't be coming home at all from races.

Think finding what 'motivates' your birds is the right way to go. Er - can't help you much there, as some of my YBs are paired / running with OBs, and I'm 10 minutes behind this week myself.  :)

Came across same thing Garlic better than Nystan a while back. Quite unbelievable the sheer range of  things that this herb can tackle.

you dont really want to be motivating ybs thats your future all you need to be doing with ybs is getting them home yb season is part of their schooling if you can get em through this they will make good yearling as long as you keep them out of them north and east winds yours in sport

Totally agree with Bruno's post! Don't treat unless you have found that the birds are ailing with something. Would you take a headache tablet if you didn't have a headache, or cough medicine if you didn't have a cough! And if you did, would these medications help you to be able to run faster and further than you could before you took them?

Totally Disagree with Phillips post regarding motivation. If you are happy that you don't want to compete with youngsters, then this is fine. But if you genuinely want to race competitively, then you need to motivate them!

Firstly, you need to have them on either the dark or lightness systems to ensure race quality feathering. Personally, i don't like the lightness system and use the dark for my own birds. You can motivate by seperating the sexes in your loft, and then letting them run together prior to basketing. Or by pairing the youngsters and letting them go down on eggs! But it all depends on if YOU want to compete or not.

Best wishes and good luck to all!

Get your feeding right not too heavy and keep to the same system and regime, pigeons do not like change. I personally only fly my Y/b,s to the perch teach them well and they will make better old birds. I know lots of fanciers that really push their young and find most of them are burnt out and useless at the yearling stage

why do you want to motivate ybs? i always thought they were your future stock, surely yb racing is supposed to be a education for them for the following years to come. only my opinion,

Thanks to everybody for ideas, I can't change loft or system this year but will have an extra compartment next year.

I suppose we are never happy are we? I'm getting them all back from racing and training and they will be here for next year, but being bottom of the sheet or thereabouts just gets to you! Other members have won races and lost half their teams, but even to pull up to half way on the sheet would be nice! I won't be blind treating, but I've got garlic in the water for the first time to see if that changes anything.

Thanks to all again

nowt wrong with these ,, to win they would need trained more [ then they wouldnt fly 2 hours then  :)] but is yb winning that important , would much rather have fresh yb,s left if poss, at the end of the season :)
