chrissyboy Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 Is this a sign of poor breeding or deficency in the bird , any comments on this .
Guest strapper Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 no its a sign of moulting like all birds are doing that have not been on the darkness system...its natural.
chrissyboy Posted August 18, 2008 Author Report Posted August 18, 2008 It is when you wean them from nest , before they start moulting.
Guest strapper Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 this is the time of the year birds are moulting.
chrissyboy Posted August 18, 2008 Author Report Posted August 18, 2008 When you move your ybs in April and after a few days note a dropped outer tail flight , the yb will not moult for six weeks at this time .
Merlin Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 Have seen this once in one of my race birds,it made no differ, same bird is four year old no still here having raced every season, when it moults out it will be o.k,outer tail feather, looks out of place, hanging down,on its own, is bird ok otherwise.
chrissyboy Posted August 18, 2008 Author Report Posted August 18, 2008 Bird timed several occassions in racing y birds
Guest strapper Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 i dont know why the question was asked if u already had knowledge about it?? a bird can moult at anytime if on treatment of medication..baytril is a very strong medication but has side effects,i know as it happened to me this year.birds fell apart after treatment.
Merlin Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 Unless I am picking this up wrong, its nothing to do with moult, its just a tail feather which is out of synch, thats my slant on it.
Guest strapper Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 now reading it again ive misread it , thought it said tail flights..not single flight.
OLDYELLOW Posted August 18, 2008 Report Posted August 18, 2008 the tail of a pigeon is used to stear and brake , moulting an odd feather wont stop it flying , but feathers do usualy moult in pairs at opposite sides of a bird ,the other paired feather will no doubt fall out shortly
