Pego Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Keep the hens happy and you will do ok.
Guest chrisss Posted September 5, 2008 Report Posted September 5, 2008 Trying to read between the lines either they don't think its any good or know nothing about it. i know very little about it but i would like to know more
jimmy white Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 difficult to explain in detail really in one post,, but there are many varied ways in this system ,, as to books or videos etc you should find many trawling the internet , one system i have used and been successfull with ,in the past , was having three sections in the loft ,,the middle section with nest boxes , where the pairs breed and rear one round of yb,s after sitting 8 days on their second round of eggs ,, separate the cocks to one end section the hens to the other end section , these sections to have "v" perches ,, the cocks and hens excercised, trained, seperately, then back into their individual sections . then on a friday b4 race entry , allowed together in the middle section where their boxes are for a few mins ,this system does make the birds very keen and providing they are fit,, should win well,, this is just one way of racing both cocks and hens at the same time
wings Posted September 6, 2008 Author Report Posted September 6, 2008 Jimmy thanks for the reply, it seems to me that there is a lot more to it than i expected though i would love to race the hens as well as the cocks i feel like most people i gather that the hens are wasted after the young bird season. i think my next thing to do is trawl the internet as you sugested to see if there is something that can help me in setting a system up and working with it for a few seasons to see how it goes. Thanks again for the positive reply to the question.
Merlin Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 My way being that Cocks are left in their boxs, and hens removed to adjoining section,on poles,or v perches, try to keep off floor which encourages hens,to bond,in corners etc, after excercise/training hens trap into cocks boxs, with cocks having been removed to hens section, and on it goes, race hens one week cocks the next on land, beleive always mate should be waiting after race, akin to widowhood, many variations on system, get one that suits yourself.
Guest cloudview Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 even simpler method is after pairing , rearing , put hens in their own section ,on poles or v perch exercise them to that section only just as you would do in winter , only on race day allow back to nestboxes less hassle all round , and always have cocks out first , as hens can be tempermental , ,usually have hens out last thing
Guest shadow Posted September 6, 2008 Report Posted September 6, 2008 very good CD by john halstead on rounabout flew the system many years and on average the hens out perform the cocks at the distance races
BLUEBAR165 Posted September 7, 2008 Report Posted September 7, 2008 dont agree with flying cocks 1week then hens next u could b missing a possible winner if u dont send both
