Guest pigeon82 Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 hello all i started racing this year young birds only but am wondering now what to do i have 10ybs in my race team left should i hold these or keep racing i also have 14 later young birds that will start training very shortly im hoping to get them in the comeback race but if not im wondering should i keep them for breeding next year and just race the 10 thathat have all been racing already if that makes sence to ne1
Guest bigda Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 hi mate keep the ten you have for next year, train out the late breds and try and send then to the comeback race or shortest club race, failing that take them weather permitting a few chucks at 60- 80 mile later on, after they have been well schooled keep the late bred bird away from the other ten as it can cause problems health wise
Guest pigeon82 Posted August 9, 2009 Report Posted August 9, 2009 cheers pal ive them seperated any way the 10 racers are in one side by them selves and the later ones are in another side its just im not sure weather to stop or not because to dat i have had 2x1sts 3x2nds and 2x3rds first year racing in 10 yrs
Guest IB Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 Provided each bird is fit to go each week, I would keep the current team going till they've flown the programme. Provided your second team is trained up and fit for the jump into the next race, I'd get them going too and fly the rest of the programme with them too. Note what you say about breeding. You would be breeding off untested birds, not the best way to create a team you can depend on: look to the parents that have bred your steady birds + ones to take tickets, that's your breeders for next year..
pjc Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 Just starting back and the 10 having been raced i'd stop them for next year and push on with the 14 later ones to get them some experience. Not sure if you bred the yb's yourself or have obtained them from other people? If you've obtained them then you will need something for breeding although i know where IB is coming from but at the moment you may need to build your team up and in a couple of years when you know what you've got you can worry more about being selective with your breeding. Well done so far! Phil
Guest spin cycle Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 3 good posts..but agree with bigda and pjc
blackdog Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 stop them mate, the way things are going with losses you could end up with nothing to race next year, i would train later ones up and put them away for next year as well, i know its hard to do with you just starting up but its even harder if you carry on and end up with nothing .
Guest Owen Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 I think it worth remembering that your best yearlings will be the ones with the experience. I would definately send your ten until the end of August and bring the younger ones on by bags of training, followed by experience in the come back races. There is no future in holding birds back because as already been said, you will need breeders. Breeders need to be tried and tested birds. Please don't do what some do, breed from birds that are said to be out of this and that. You will make progress quicker by using what you have providing they are known to be reliable.
mark croker Posted August 10, 2009 Report Posted August 10, 2009 if it were me i would stop the ten now the late ones i would bin then you would only have the ten to concentrate on that have scored for you they would most likley score as yearlings so dont clutter things up with late breeds thats what i would do oh happy days harsh but i agree, this year i had late bred 07 birds with no races and yealings that had 1 race. the 07 birds were a pain and if i was to do it again i wouldn't just to have numbers, a small team of experiance is better than wasting your time, then again i know flyers hat dont race young birds at all and win outt of turn with the widowers, learn from your own mistakes i say and make your own mind up, what works for 1 flyer does not mean it will work for you
